    Not gona do anymore damage than a normall pullup if your doing it right. Just like a traditional pullup if you keep active shoulders and arrnt at a dead hang and have fair shoulder flexibility its not any harder on your shoulders if not its eiser on them...but then again how would i know, you probably have a few personal training certs and have been going to school for exercise science for a few years...so ill listen to you since your the expert

    But to be honest I think the idea of cross fit it pretty cool..but the way it's mostly done has too much corner cutting people do.

    And the stupids in our society really do shine, like the people tossing the bar :D

    Bishop, starting crossfit advocates form and dead hang pull ups prior to the kipping. Kipping has become a way for people to say they did numerous pull ups when in fact that did not.

    Fitness tests, competitions (besides crossfit games) and other such STRENGTH building activities utilize the proper form pull.

    I have Used the improper form pull up referred to as kipping or butterfly and have received no more benefits than proper form strict pull ups.

    Work on the basics, work on your form, work on your strength, you're a beginning lifter, no need to blast onto the scene with a gymnastics move that's not really going to steer you the direction that you want.

    As for the crossfit guys in here, come on really? Is it that important to you to always be trying to shove advanced movements down people's throats? That's how people get hurt in your boxes. There's a crossfit thread, discussion about your "sport" takes place there, don't let the door hit you on way out.

    Another thing about this gymnastics move, I've watched the Olympic gymnasts perform routines, and never once in 25 plus years have I seen one hang on a bar and do multiple kipping pull ups as part of the routine. One here, one there, etc but never a set of them.

    Just putting this out as food for thought. If anyone has seen a routine that has a set of 20+ kipping pull ups in it, please, post it here as I am curious.

    Gymnast are pretty common in the crossfit community. They may not do kipping pulls ups during their gymnastic routine but they will do them to increase their athleticism. Not sure why that matters though. Crossfit is just a collaboration of various sports. Kipping was debated for a long time on whether or not its fair in competition. It is used for numbers but I still believe it adds more to a traditional pull up if done to failure. Thats like a die hard back squater talking shit on a front squat because it's different. Its called a variation. Don't like it? Don't do it. I hate machines but yet probably every single bodybuilder would argue that when properly used machines are invaluable. Sound familiar?


    Still a gym and can be done in a traditional gym. Still fitness regardless so I'll keep talking about it here. Just cause I think bodybuilding is a weak excuse for a "sport" doesn't mean I will put it down every chance I get. Just sometimes.

    If your refering to me. I have not once like you said "shoved" or forced advanced movments on anyone. I have corrected what people have said about in this case "kipping" when what there saying is incorrect. But i could care less whether or not someone does it. I butterly probably 10% of the time. 1) when im doing muscle ups. 2) to practice form 3) when im competing. I personaly dont reccomend them when im teaching a crossfit class either ill reccomend strict or with a band if its a higher number.

    If you don't recommend them when teaching a class, why are you defending them when another person also suggests that they not perform them?
