Body Armor Rock Steps

Kingston - I put the brackets on the truck first (hand tight). I then set the rails on two automotive jack stands and adjusted height as needed. I then bolted the bracket to the step (hand tight). Before I tightened up all the bolts, I checked the height and alignment. I put BLUE Loctite on every bolt just in case. I will tell you that getting the bolts from the bracket to the step tight are a real pain. Maybe I just didn't have the right wrench. 1 hour max and you're done.

 

I went redneck with my "jack" stands. Also used blue loc tite. Got one bolt hand tight, switched to the other end. And then worked my way back just to hand tight. Then went back with the socket wrench. Torqued to 3/4 and then a last round to full.

Also took an hour.

I have had them on my truck for about 3,000 miles now I have not had one issue with them except one side was not tapped for the bolts when I got them. I love how they curve inward so I don't have to step over them when getting out. One other issue during installation was the most forward mounting bracket has 2 holes and came with two bolts but the factory mounting on my 2013 only had one hole but they still hold firm, they weigh about 45 pounds a piece so get a friend to help you hold them while you mount them. In my opinion they are worth every penny I love them over the factory ones. I weigh 210lbs and put my full weight on them regularly and they don't even flex.

I had the same issue as you with the single hole for the front bracket. Haven't had any issues with them without that bolt. They've been on for probably 2000 miles and through some light off roading.

 

So these will fit a 2014 double cab? About to pull the trigger, like the look and great anti ding guards!

 

Yes they will fit.

 

My issue is that with them appearing to just be plate metal, that they'll bend like tin foil as soon as you actually use them like a rock rail with the full weight of the truck pressing on an adjacent rock...

 

They are solid the step itself is a little thin to bear heavy weight of a rock or the truck BUT, once again, these are body mounted steps, not frame. You wouldn't want to use these to the same extreme as true rock sliders without risking body damage.

 

^this. They're nice looking, "lower profile", non-tubular, non-chromed out steps, at an excellent price point. They hide the ugly underside nicely, as a bonus. They go on pretty easy--it's a one man job with a bucket on the opposite end of you.

And that's it...

After I get it paid off, I might slap some rock-sliders on and do some more heavy 'roading with my Taco, but these are not those.

 

I placed my order Sunday from Amazon, they have them for $257. I figured for that price I couldn't go wrong.

I really liked these about 1-2 years ago. Was looking at steps since my wife was preggers at the time.

Was actually home visiting, drove out to their address .... and.... closed. Not really an unusual time either, and no truck out front to check it out. Glad there's finally a review.

Might ditch the Avid tube steps for these.

 

Whenever a company tells you that they are using 5mm steel in their products that's the first red flag that should go up. Cheap thin foreign steel that's bolted to the body of the truck may look cool, but has the same functionality as any other tube step on the market.

 

Pulled the trigger since I don't really go off-roading and these will make great anti-door-dingers. Came to $278.02 shipped with tax on Amazon. Estimated delivery: July 31, 2014 - Oct. 8, 2014 So hopefully I will get them sooner and shipped in good shape.

 

These are not 'Sliders' and I don't think anyone is advertising them as a serious Off-Road option. I bought them as an 'style' option vs the old traditional 'Tube Steps'. I get tons of compliments to the newer look. Plenty strong enough to stand on when washing the roof line.

 

These would be nice, if mounted to frame instead. I think I will buy and then make a plate to amount to frame and weld the two together. (Plate and steps)

 

If you do that, please let me know how it goes. I was thinking of having someone do the same.

 

Why on earth do they not make these for the access cab?!

Id love to have them for the sole purpose of aiding in keeping rocks from being slung up on my door from my tires...

Plus the truck sits a bit higher so steps for the wife would be nice
