please feel free to make any and all assumptions and prognostications you like, the fact is, Tacoma's aren't going anywhere anytime soon as they have a huge market share and Toyota isn't as stupid as some may think. Go ahead and jump on the GM/Ford/Chrysler bandwagon if you choose but, you will be wasting your money.

Saw a new Colorado Z71 up close today at our state fair. This truck is NOT a threat to Toyota's Tacoma at all, I walked away not very impressed at all, and I walked up to it with an open mind (I've owned trucks from all of the big three) previously, so I'm not brand loyal to Toyota despite preferring them.

Anyway, I find the styling overwrought and kind of cheapish (in person) the truck looks great in pics, but in real life the nose is adorned in cheap flimsy plastic everywhere. There is even a plastic air dam that hangs so low, it makes the truck (Z71 "Off Road") edition look like it's inches from the ground. I actually think the air dam on this truck could easily be ripped off on a parking block, without much effort at all.

I also think that the overall size is the same foot print visually, as our 2nd gen Tacoma's. It just looks taller, and probably is, but the ground clearance is less. The interior is just awful really, sure it looks modern, but the martials, shapes and layout screams 2005 GM rental car standard issue to me.

Yes the 2nd gen Tacoma is well long in the tooth, but the interior is refined, chiseled and cohesive. The new Colorado interior is, just as the exterior, over styled just for the sake of being. The truck was locked for some reason (All other GM trucks were open to climb in and out of but this thing) Anyway, this model was the crew cab example, and looked to have no more room, if not less in the second row than the 2nd gen Tacoma. IMO GM really needed to one up Toyota in this dept if they were expecting to put a solid dent in Tacoma sales.

Out back, the pickup box featured a traditional metal surface, with a spray in liner. As much as people who largely don't own a 2nd gen Tacoma hate our composite box, I love it, and I've had plenty of conventional metal ones to compare with. The box on this Colorado (Short bed) was no larger than the Tacoma's, but it was deeper. People like me that actually use a truck as a truck do not find that a benefit, but for of a hindrance for loading over the rail.

As mentioned, I was really expecting to be blown away by this truck in person, but felt largely deflated. It was also interesting to note, I was looking at this truck for over 10 min, and during that duration I was the only person looking at it. The Silverado, Tahoe and Stingray had a full crowd around them, while not one person out of hundreds walking by even noticed the new Colorado on display.

Ironically, a few hundred yards away was the Toyota display, where they had a mag-gray Tacoma TRD-Sport DCLB on display, that seemed to have a crowd around it, let alone a short line of people wanting to sit in the almost 10-year old truck. I personally think and I will say it again, this truck is no threat to Toyota at all. It may earn some conventional domestic shoppers that came over, after the big three killed off their mid-sized offerings. But I doubt any loyal Toyota owners will go for this, after seeing it in person.

It looks pretty bad from this picture. I thought it looked somewhat decent from the early pictures but hey prototypes look better than the actual production version.

It doesn't come as a surprise that the colorado is cheap lol. I bet it will be more expensive than the Tacoma as well.

Chevy has never impressed me. My uncle bought a 2013 silverado and there was one thing that I liked about it~ When you shift from park to drive at the boat ramp it keeps the brakes on until you hit the gas so you don't roll backwards. Its an extremly awesome and useful feature in my opinion.

Other than that, the interior felt cheaper than my dads 2012 Ram which cost much less money. Same with my other uncles top of the line LTZ Tahoe, overpriced and still had the same cheap ass materials inside the cab. Not impressed with either truck. To me the interior design just looks like something out of 2004 and feels like it belongs in a base model taurus from that year, not a $60,000 SUV

Couldn't agree with you more. Even the C6 felt cheap as hell. Pushing on the rear bumper it just feels like it is about to fall apart.

Yeah I can be honest and say that even though I dig the diesel idea, there is a 0% chance that I will actually consider buying one of these.

Your comments make no sense? The new Colorado has 300 HP and will without a doubt out tow your 236 HP 2014 Tacoma.

Adio, you say you looked at the truck with an open mind? Sounds more like a fanboy review to me. All your comments were negative. If you were really looking a the truck with a open mind I think you could have something good about it to comment on?

I've always thought that the reason GM's were so cheap is because they have to pay each union worker a small fortune. They simply can't afford quality materials because of the overhead.

Ummm what heck you talkin about? I was commenting on what Pool Runner had posted. And no I ain't no fanboy.

If you love the up coming Colorado so much why don't you jump the bandwagon and get one. Come back here in about 1,2,3 years and tell us how it is.

Like it has been mention before there's no way in hell Taco loyalist will jump on this thing, unless you have a big boner for diesel.

Speaking of cheese, is anyone else annoyed by this stupid Ford spy movie or whatever ad?

I can usually tune out stupidity, but those ads are everywhere the last few days.

People aren't thinking of what the new ridgeline is gonna do to sales either. I can tell you, from first hand knowledge, the new Honda rigeline is gonna take sales away from both Nissan and Toyota.
