what's that old saying, something like; if you always compare other items to the best, you are trying to justify your decision to go with the other. Anyway, you know what I mean.

Well let’s see some are now pushing 10 years old still have not heard of plastic bed issues. My old 97's bed was dented and rusting through that will never happen with the plastic one frankly I think it was a brilliant ideal strong light weight and will never rust. Frames yes but Toyota is not alone here in Maine the Chevys and Fords rot equally as bad shoot the Chevy spring shackles rot off and they drive the springs through the beds the Fords rear portion of the frames rot off and the truck body lands on what's left of the frame. Now the big difference is Toyota replaces them Ford and Chevy do not. I listen to some say how Chevy changes its design and Toyota doesn’t The only thing they have changed is the sheet metal the running gear is decades old. Unless one of the big 3 comes out with something radical it’s going to be business as usual. The US trucks are glitcy that is what catches the eye and their price reflects that I’ll be damned if I’ll pay 50 grand for any truck. Just give me a truck that will run 200K and that’s what I’ll buy I don’t care how it looks as long at it gets me there that is why Toyota is not real scared of the new trucks.

I think the tacoma will do good and survive, i mean you have to stop and think, chevy and gm has already released the colorado/canyon once, and tacomas survived it. Yes i know the newer versions are nicer but still, the tacoma survived. Plus the gm and chevy versions will probably be a few thousand more than the tacomas. Almost all of chevys trucks are overpriced, in my opinion. Just my two cents n

Tacoma ' s reliability is unmatched. I personally will stick with the Tacoma. I don't think GM is capable of producing a truck that will rival Toyota longevity. So for me, I will wait as long as needed for a new Taco. The GM stuff will be, well, typical GM after the newness wears off. I will tip my hat that the Colorado is a nice looking truck though.

GM will continue to swim upstream against the 2.6m recalls, old-GM vs. new-GM liability, etc. Old design problems/attitudes will dog them for awhile. Toyota should have a lot of problems solved since the NUMMI closing so that should say alot about the Toyota commitment to quality.
So, overall GM has to prove their new models and it will take some time. I agree with others; Prove the product consistently and you'll earn my next 30+k; time will tell. A pretty skin may be ok only for a 3 year lease.

Unfortunately, I can't give details. I had to sign a confidentiality agreement for the event I worked. But, I liked what I saw and where they were going with things. For the first time, the next generation Tacoma is being handled by a team from North America instead of Japan. The current generation Tundra is the same way now as well. So, now a team of people from a country that knows what trucks should be like are designing it, not Japan. Hopefully they start releasing some stuff at the end of this year.

At that same event they rolled out all of the TRD Pro trucks. Now, those are nice. I liked all three vehicles with the TRD Pro package.

I think of the Ridgeline as being more of a luxury vehicle for people that want a truck that isn't so much a truck but a daily driver with a bed. I don't see the appeal of them but people do own them. Not sure why they own them.

My guess would be Ford just because the best selling vehicle in the States is either the Camry or the F150 in recent years.

If your towing anything over the current Tacoma's capability, it doesn't matter if you have 500hp & 1000 lb/ft of torque. You can't overcome physics and the tax it puts on smaller vehicles when towing.

At that point a full sized makes better since. I don't know, but from my experience GM has always had inflated numbers when it comes to hp & torque. Example, the 6.2L V8 in the Silverado makes more power on paper, but the tiny 3.5 EcoBoost still out tows it and has a more useable powerband.

The Tacoma may only put down 236hp on paper, but it feels like 270 to my but dyno. Heck, even the 159hp in my 2.7 "feels" like 180-200hp. Toyota engines always seemed to feel like they have more power than they do. While GM usually feels like much less than advertised, imagine that from government motors.

My guess is the advertised 300hp in the Colorado will end up feeling like 240-250ish. I drove my MIL's 2006 Colorado, with the 5 cyl once, supposedly that's more power than a 4.0L Tacoma? I would have been hard-pressed if it wasn't 200hp.

I think you are correct but I vaguely remember, possibly the US design starting as of the 1995.5, 1st gen versions. IIRC only N. America got the Tacoma specific design, while ROW got the Hilux?

I think it might be Isuzu. But mostly their commercial delivery trucks and most probably sold outside the US.

When I was looking at the Colorado the only information was that it had a 3.6L engine. In previous vehicles that is one tired ass, can barely get out of its own way engine. There were no HP or MPG specs released. The Colorado page at chevy.com still doesn't specify 300HP.

Had they said it was coming out with the 4.3L that's currently in the Silverado, then I probably wouldn't have looked at the Tacoma, and would probably still waiting for the Colorado.

...however, I'm glad I switch to the Tacoma.
