Carrying Plywood

Hello World! Just picked up a 07 4x4 (last one on the lot), and thought I would share how I will be carrying sheets of plywood.

Basically, just lay a couple of 2x4's across the bed rails, and drill some holes in the wood to match the holes in the tie-down clamps that toyo supplies.
Then you can strap or screw down the plywood to the 2x4's for safe transport.
And, you can still access most of the junk in the bed!

First of all welcome to TW and congrats on the new truck!......that mod is awesome man, i am myself looking at my clamps to use them as a bike rack, and was thinking of using some long screws too with the holes.... good job

How long and what size are the bolts you have going up through the wood from the rail tie downs?

 

Thanks guys - yes I do love my new truck! But the old Silverado had some positives too ...


Bolts are 6" carriage bolts, 1/4-20 thread. I tried to find a 6" hookeye, that I could attach a bungee cord or similar - but no luck.


And it is probably obvious, but the tailgate will still be usable even with a full load of lumber.

Excellent mod! I have a Roll-N_lock cover and this would even work well with that. I would have to anchor the 2x4 pieces to the bed tie downs.

I can see this working with me even having my low-profile toolbox already mounted. Toolbox thickness on rail is about thickness of your 2x4 so I could either move the front one back to clear the box, or just not use the front one and have the plywood rest on the low-profile box in front of cab.

I was wondering if it will work on a DC short bed?

 

I think with a 6 foot bed, 2 feet of overhang is ok but with a 4 foot bed too much would be hanging off the back.

 

Great idea! You could even keep the plywood on there as an Okie tonneau cover, LOL.

3 feet of overhang probably ok then. leave tailgate open and it wont stick out too far past the bed.
