Just completed lubing my u joints at 30k miles & it took quite a bit of grease. Judging by the amount of grease and the complete lack of previous grease splatter on the bottom side of the truck I highly doubt that anyone has lubed the u joints since it has left the factory. So much for the Toyota service department doing what they are supposed to do.

Overall it really was not a difficult job to complete & took maybe 15 minutes. However the zerk on the front drive shaft closest to the transfer case was a PIA to get to.

Now that Toyota Care has expired I will now be doing this every oil change.

Crawled under my 06 Prerunner 2wd and could not find any zerks. Guess I bought a grease gun and grease for nothing. My owner's manual says to lube propeller shaft.

Anyone have a reference on the official grease specifications for a '13 V6 4X4 Access Cab SR5? One type of grease for all fittings? Thank you all.

I put new grease in mine the other weekend since my truck is coming up on 10,000 miles. I used some cheap white lithium NLGI#2 stuff, and the old grease coming out was jet black and smelled pretty strong. I haven't forded any rivers or flooded sections of road or pulled anything real heavy yet so I'm thinking that's probably just how factory grease is supposed to look.

This may be a stupid question, but does my 2WD have any zerks that need greasing?

I zerked my TRD with 16,000km's last night for the first time. Fuck is that a pain in the ass... The ones at the back are easy, but the ones at the front suck. Quite often I couldn't get a good seal and every pump would just accumulate around the zerk.

Probably wiped up more grease than put in the joints themselves!

The old grease was jet black though. What's the color of grease used from the factory?

Anyone recommend a good pistol grip gun? I have Amazon prime and ive read through almost all the reviews. I bought the Lincoln with 18in extension hose but had to send it back because it never would pump grease out the end. Almost every gun has reviews about how difficult it is to remove the coupler from the zerk when done. Some people have even pulled the entire zero out or broke it off trying to disconnect the coupler.

Besides the one i returned ive never had a grease gun. Just didnt know if i should look for something particular.

I think i'll just buy the pistol grip gun from Harbor Freight. It's only $18 and with the %20 off coupon it looks like a good buy. I read some reviews and it's worth trying for that price.
