IMHO, I would be a bit leary about paper given where we're at, Gulf Coast, and the humidity levels. I've had crossovers in my door that get corrosion built up on them, so I would check further into people who've had them for a while in a humid climate. Unless you are going to build/acquire a full baffle around them, I would find some synthetic material. Personally, I think paper sounds better, but consessions need to be made for the environment they are in.

How do you like the focal? And why only 3 channels out of 5?

They say they coat there speaker with something that makes them water proof, in a video they spray it with water and them let it play. But even most paper ones consist of Kevlar or some other material with it.

I like them. I actually bought two mid level sets about ten years ago, and so far have not had a reason to replace them.

I am only using three channels as I dont have a need to run the rears doors as anything beyond occasional fill. So I saw no reason to rewire to the rear doors. I have the five channel since I wanted a single amp that had a good sub channel. I had always used four channel amps for this, but have found that the bridged rear channels arent enough anymore for lots of subs. Used to be that doubling the main speaker output for a sub was good enough, now you need three to four times main to get subs moving well.

They seem to have pretty good reviews, for a medium grade speaker.
