I actually believe that. I had 265/70/r17's on my nissan frontier xe 4banger, but when i sold the set and they were installed on a Frontier w/ a 3" lift it rubbed! Has to do w/ the geometry of suspension, what kind of lift, spacers etc...

i love how people tend to get into arguments on peoples post rather than just answering the question the person had in the first place. the guy is not asking for life advice, he is a big boy and wipes his own ass i am sure.

bro, 3" lifts look very nice when you tuck some nice rims and 33's or even 32's under it.

no one belived that i was able to stuff 35's under my 3" lift on my '00 but i did, they do rub when i turn fully but thats fine for me cause i dont do any rough offroad and it is on blown suspension which will be fixed soon and the rubbing will be fixed too.

it is true that spacers on stock struts will lead to blown struts because it decreases travel and over compresses the spring.

i have not learned very much about the newer taco's but in my opinion get enlongated struts and springs,

i personally am trying to decide between the OME 3" longer spring and strut kit or the Fabtech 3.5" lift coil over kit.

do some research on fabtech or just go onto they have some good stuff there.

3 inches. I think 6 is to much for a mid size truck unless you get the tundra. now a 6 would look nice on that haha

I would like to go with a 6" Fabtech lift but I've already done the math on what it would cost me to do it and to do it the right way and with parts and labor it would be around or over 8 grand. Yes it can be done for less money if you're willing to cut some corners or you already have 17" wheels.

    For me it would be....

$2,250 Basic Fabtech lift installed (labor, alignment and tax included)

$2,200+ for King (or diff. brand) RR coilovers and RR rear shocks (install myself).

$2,000 tires and wheels Nitto mud grapplers 33x12.5" wheels 17x9" 4.5 BS.

$1,200-1,500 (cost range from what I've heard) for regearing (parts labor and tax included)

$600 (a guess) for a custom made leaf pack, to avoid the block (tax & labor incl).

Would be the sickest 4 banger reg cab Tacoma I've ever seen but I would have to sell my 350Z do be able to do it and not so sure I want to sell it for that purpose LOL. Especially to find out the 6" lift may or may not give me hassles down the road after dumping 8 grand and selling my baby. As we all know once you go Fabtech you can't go back without tons of frame work/welding/hassle/nightmare/crying/sleepless nights etc. Oh and the great part is you get to kiss the factory warranty goodbye with the 6" lifts too. Neat!!

If money and the warranty issue wasn't such a huge factor with me, I would do the Fabtech in a heartbeat.

Another option (what I'm doing) is RR ICON's front and rear (2.5-3" lift) for $1,600 installed. Gonna try to install the crap myself I think and save a few hundred bucks since it's just some nuts and bolts and will only cost me about $1,600 with tax.

Still will be a kick ass Tacoma and no need to sell my baby, loose the warranty, ruin the frame, save about 7 grand, keep the wheels and tires I have now and not have to ge-gear or buy some custom leaf pack or the risk of driveline shudder with the 6".

If money is tight, I would say 3". If your kid has tons of money for school, then whip out the credit card and go nuts. Our economy will thank you:)

I personally have gone with the Fab Tech 3.5" lift coilover kit. i am putting the toytec top plate 1/2" spacer on top so i dont have to max out the coilovers for the full 3.5" of lift. i am also putting the Daystar 1" body lift on to be able to give that added clearence for my Mickey Thompson 35" Baja ATZ tires. though i am like many where i would love to have a 6" lift,,,,, seeing that you have children and only use the offraod mildly, i would recommend the 3" lift and some nice 33's or 32's dunlop makes an amazing 33" mud tire.

do what you think is going to be most useable, with kids..... unless your ok carrying a ladder with you to get them in, 6" would be the wrong choice right now.

I vote for 3"... I had a chevy 6in lift and 315/75/16s. It was a $13,000 Rock-krawler lift done right but the truck still became a money pit. Toyota designed the stock spindles a certain way. When you put huge tires with a different back-spacing you put some pretty crazy strains on the wheels bearings causing them to shit the bed. 6" lift do not tend to hold a good alignment. You will get tired of getting it realigned every few months and if you dont youll start cupping those $300+ tires. Also, 6in lift when you drop the front diff to save the CVs it will kill your front drive shaft custom drive shafts arent cheap. Ball joints suffer if you go offroad youll want to upgrade the steering because 35s dont turn easy and 35s put enough leverage to easily snap a tie-rod. 3" Looks good on the tacoma can be done with bilstein 5100s with AAL in the rear. As little as $500 if you use your stock coil springs and 5100s set at 2.5" and 2" AAL Toytec Ultimate lift for $1200 and your truck will run no different then stock as far as reliability. My 2 cents

Well said toda, that's very true. With 4.5" backspacing and 33's with 2.5 5100's I've managed to knock the cambolts a few times due bottoming out. I have not doubt my balljoints and wheelbearings are crying for help but I know they'd be screaming if I had 35's. Another great option is gusset the cams so they don't move under stress.... then all you gotta worry about is snaping a spindle or tie rod, great!

Dang man 13000 for a drop bracket kit?? DAMN u shoulda just LT'ed it
But I have no doubt it looked sick... got pics?

It was a LT it had new ucas lcas extended drive axles spindles. diff drop. torsion bar to coil-over conversion and 6" leaf lift, no blocks for me.

If i just mall crawled i probably would never break anything. But it was lifted and i used it the way it was intended to be used- offroad

nice truck. Didn't know the avalanche was torsion bar. Was it one off kit or from a big name company, which c/o did u go with?
