what dealer-installed accessories to get?

Hi,
I'm looking at buying a 2008 4x4 Access cab on Saturday. The dealer has agreed to give me all accessories at cost. I already know that I'm going to get a hitch installed. What size ball should I get for the hitch? I plan on eventually getting a boat and a trailer to tow.

What other accessories would be good to get? I don't want to go overboard but I thought it might be a good idea to get them while I can at cost if I'm going to eventually want them anyway.

Tube steps, all weather mats, maybe a cargo divider or net, but the tube steps would be my first choice

 

bed mat, tube steps, bed extender, vent visors, trd exhaust and intake, supercharger, better tires.....but thats just some things i think are cool.

 

A 2" ball should be fine. Stay away from the bug deflector.

 

yep the bed extender is a must!

 

yeah.....toyota's bug deflector sucks....it'll tear up the paint on the edge of the hood. get a wade instead.

 

If you get a s/c at cost, let us know how much. You could 'lose' it on the way home and have to get another one.

If you don't wheel, grab the steps to. If you plan on wheeling, I'd skip that and look into Sliders.

 

Extra cleats, and D hook tie downs would be nice. TRD exhaust would be a nice addition too. Personally I would skip on the Toyota tube steps regardless of if you're off-roading or not. Unless they have changed them, they are painted silver, that's eventually going to chip up. And they are too expensive. I would save my money on the steps and buy a nice set of Westin SS steps if you're looking for a tube step.

How do I know for sure that the dealer is giving me these at cost and not just discounting them a little bit?

 

you may never know... dealer items are quite a bit more expensive i guess for the convenience of being able to tie them into the loan. try searching for htem online perhaps?

 

I would get the floor mats and tow pkg only, anything else you can add later if you want, probably cheaper than the dealers cost. tow pkg for me was around $600 so if you are getting it for 455 that sounds good. make sure its an actual factory tow package and not just a dealer installed hitch mount. actual tow pkg should have a 7 pin plug, bigger altinator, bigger battery, transmission cooler, and auxilary oil cooler. if its just a hitch then its not a factory option and is a dealer option and 455 is a huge rip off

 

Bed Mat is a must. I kick myself in the head everytime I put stuff back there. Without a mat everything slides around.

 

If you intend to get a boat/trailer eventually then purchase a Tacoma with the tow package. Don't add the hitch as an accessory. For one it's not the class IV hitch and is only rated to tow 5000#. Also the Tacoma without the tow package is only rated for 3500#. The tow package includes a tranny cooler and larger alternator required for the larger 6500# tow capacity.

Definitely get a bed mat though. It's worth the investment.

 

At least ask how much the superchange would be. I am sure everyone here would like to hear actual cost. Get the tow package instead of the hitch, the tranny cooler alone is worth it. I personally would check about Borla exhaust, its factory in FL. Hell, I'd just ask them to give me a list and go home and compare prices you can find online.

 

Try trdparts4u.com to compare what they list it for and what your dealer is going to sell it you for.

Go with what j4x4ar3 says too if you can. The factory installed tow pkg is a heck of a deal. But if you cannot, you can get an aftermarket hitch (Like Drawtite or Reese) with wiring harness installed for around $200. Less than that if you don't mind using hand tools. (etrailer). As said, adding afterwards without the tow package only gives you the hitch & harness. My dealer threw mine in for free.

The bed mat is a definite too imo. Everything else, add yourself. Much less expensive unless of course everything includes installation!

You should visit www.toyota-parts.com I think their prices may help a lot on comparison, then you may argue your dealer's price and get even a lot less price for some or all of them.
