Does the 2014's come with stainless exhaust pipe, or is it just the old mild steel allumized pipe?
Tried a search but came up empty.

Go the Toyota Web site and select the contact Toyota link and ask them. I check when I bought mine (2012) and they said back the pipes were ss but the muffler was a rust resistant metal ... They got back to me within a couple days

Correct me if I'm wrong but , I believe there are different grades of stainless steel and I do know the some are more or less magnetic than others. (I think 10% chrome is added typically?) Not that I'm defending Toyota with their steels and rust issues but I would not just say that your test means it just plain old steel ...

    Some stuff...
I think the stock exhaust is pretty run-of-the-mill but I can't confirm, as i have (and have had since I took delivery of my rig) the TRD system.

    Lol
    Wasn't meant to be.

I'm blaming my husband for that comment. After I read your post, I imagined my smart-ass husband saying the same thing to me at one point in time for a similar question. LOL

God help me, he's rubbing off on me. LOL

So to get a stainless exhaust you have to order the TRD exhaust, besides the TRD being stainless what other beneficial aspects to this exhaust? More power? More mpg's, or just more noise and a shiny tailpipe? Not sure if the value is there, whats your opinion?

Cut & broke off stuff. Prolific ziptie and tape usage.
When I had my flowmaster installed on my 2005, the muffler shop said my stock pipes were stainless.
    :notsure:
Pipes still look good so maybe it's true.

Interesting. will be doing some more research, my tailpipe looks like steel and is very magnetic.

    Snip ...

"....... There are several different types of stainless steels. The two main types are austenitic and ferritic, each of which exhibits a different atomic arrangement. Due to this difference, ferritic stainless steels are generally magnetic while austenitic stainless steels usually are not. A ferritic stainless steel owes its magnetism to two factors: its high concentration of iron and its fundamental structure. ....."

Great information, interesting reading. Now I am back to my original question.
It is interesting that the Toyota website does not mention stainless exhaust in there specs and or descriptions of their vehicles. A few years ago a lot of manufacturers were all bragging about it. Maybe it is just assumed these days.
With the rust of frames on these trucks you don't read much complaining about exhaust systems, tailpipes are no big deal I guess.

Despite what the Toyota Live Chat said, it is almost surely 409 stainless steel. As far as I know, catalytic converters have always been 409 stainless. If the rest of the system were not stainless, you would be replacing it every few years.

I just took a quick look at my 2014 Tacoma exhaust system. Even though I have fewer than 5000 miles, a non-stainless system would be heavily rusted after an Ohio winter.

Back before 409 stainless, some replacement exhaust pipes had a clear lacquer coating, so they did not rust in storage.

By the way, if you are buying stainless steel cookware, make sure it is a 300 series stainless, and not 409. 409 will develop surface rust in use.

Despite what you may have heard, even stainless steel rusts given enough time, heat, exposure to substances that promote oxidization (salt water).

My 2001 Dodge Dakota had a "Stainless Steel" exhaust that rusted up.

I used Flat Black Barbeque Grill paint that is good up to 2000 F degrees to paint my exhaust, cats and all. Six months later it's still holding up and no rust.
