looking into moving to ID

The pay scale is pretty good up here but it's very expensive to live. The housing market is way overpriced, and rent is way out of control. Be prepared to pay $1700 + for a clean house to live in.

There's an incredible amount of mold up here in the houses because it's so damp and it rains ALL THE TIME. Summers are short but really nice. And seasons - what's that? We have 2 seasons - Overcast with rain, and a 3 to 4 month summer if we're lucky.

Traffic? The Seattle / Everett area has the 2nd worst traffic in the nation. At least that used to be the statistic - I believe it. I drive through it everyday. Horrible drivers up here and I think rubbernecking was invented in this part of the States. I work in Everett, also live in Lake Stevens. Lot's of traffic camera's and street camera's in general.

Then there's the bikini coffee stands. . .

Marijuana is legal if you're into that sort of thing.

Also be prepared to deal with a lot of liberal attitude. . .and a lot of rude people. Lot of 2nd Amendment haters up here. But you can concealed carry with a license.

 

I lived in the Boise area for 20 yrs and all of my family still lives there. Not a bad place but it has become run down. Norther Idaho is very nice

That is where me and sharon are looking to move. In a year or so.

totally disagree, and dont understand where you are comming from. There are so many urban developments and renovations to the down town area. Every road is under construction and every highway on/off ramp is getting rebuilt.

is about a varied as you can imagine. Topography and people. If you wish to live here, the proper attitude is that quality of life is more important that pay.

That said, a good portion of those moving here try to bring their former habits and life patterns with them. This generally does not work out well.

Try thinking of it this way. If you look out into your garden and see a doe giving birth, do marvel at the beauty of it, or do you fret about the damage to your roses? If you are driving across the Palouse in a snow storm, do you notice the beauty or curse the slick roads?

One attitude will bring you joy and the other will bring pain and misery to you and those around you.

I had a new transplant follow me from CdA to Moscow in a bad storm. By Plummer he was fuming and by Moscow he quit his job and headed back to CA.

The area around Salmon has been discovered in the last 10 years or so, but it still is a bit like heaven.

I've been over a good portion of this state, and think I would die elsewhere. I generally start the day watching the morning sun hit the river and close it by watching the sun set behind the breaks.

Oh, many of us believe that anything south of Riggins is CA. Other than Moscow, and the transplant communities around the lakes, we are a little bit redneck north of the time zone bridge.

bah humbug. I love boise. the jobs are there, the amenities of a real city are there, and literally every outdoor activity you could want to do in any season is within 2 hours.

haha Im not sure if I would want to. just make sure you jump on the down river side there are still holes and rapids on the up river side of the bridge

 

supposedly, i had Alaskan friends that jumped off the bridge but not really sure if i believe them or not.

 

you should see how my area is becoming 5 lanes of traffic and it's a slow crawl that's just one aspect of it. For me and my family it's about starting a new chapter with new beginnings and the better future for us as well and that's something we can't do in southern California. I will always have a place in my heart for cali but if I want a better future for my kids something I didn't have growing up I have to make the right decisions for that..
