Front diff seal leaking. Askin for help/opinion

    2006 4.0 auto. 111000 miles

    I replaced passenger cv, bearing, and all the seal from the diff out.
    After filling the diff back up it was leaking at the diff seal. Damn I must have screwed the up putting it in.

    I was getting ready to go on vacation so I decided to let one of the local mechanics fix it while I was gone.
    I pick the truck up 5days later and upon entering parking lot I see that there is a pool of oil under my truck. I go inside and say " I'm here to pick up the tacoma. I got a call sayin it was done .....but apparently its not!"
    The lady says " its done! There was just a vehicle there leaking." I told her that its coming from my truck.

    THE mechanic went out checked. Yup its leaking. He tells me the bushin MIGHT be bad.
    I said it was bad before but ill play along. I told him I would get one from east coast gears.
    He said ok we wont charge anymore to do it. Also I will need to supply the tools to pull it and put it in. Bwahaha wtf.

    ive talked with a few people and they dont think the bushing will cause it to leak.

    I will turn to tw for answers before I buy the bushing.
    now I dont have anytime in thee next month or so to do this myself unfortunately.
    Plus the DB scratched the shit out of my wheel.

    I dont have pic. I wont be able to get one for a few days im out on a tug boat.

    I cant tell if its leakin from the outer part of the seal or the inner part. It will leak 1 1/2 quarts in less than day. Its comin out pretty good

    I think the bushing you are referring to is only on the driver side, so i don't see how that could be related. Beyond that, i can't really give any help. Ive only done the drivers side, which is completely different (smaller diff seal and set to a different depth). You wouldn't want my help anyway, took me 3 tries to get it right.

    Sounds like maybe you got a defective part my friend.:(

    When you are back on dry land see if you can get some shots - Jerry & I are hopefully fixing up my front end soon so I'm very curios to see what exactly your issue is.

    I missed this post. It sounds like the seal is definitely set incorrectly, mine did the same thing, leaked a shitload instantly. Driver side gets set flush with the housing, passenger side gets pushed in till it stops, I believe. That or the aftermarket CV axle is no good, I ended up trashing mine and rebuilding the stock one.

    Cv or seal? This is the second seal. Cv looked good.

    When I did it I set the seal till it stopped not sure how the mechanic did it. I was lucky he didnt call the cops on me.lol.
    I am using a rebuilt oem from cvj

    I just checked jason and you are correct. They only sell a drivers side. Leads me to believe the cv may be fucked up then. Or they set the seal wrong too

    Joe, the passenger side has the needle bearing as well. You can install the ECGS bushing you just have to remove the stub shaft.

    It sounds like the seal was damaged while the cv shaft was being installed, or the seal wasn't set properly. Like Mojo said, they are finicky little SOB's

    I've had better luck using the Toyota seal.

    I used toyo seal.
    So you think there is a bushing on that side?

    You want to come play saturday in my driveway? Going to pull cv and put new seal and the other new cv in.
