Rdrunner, I was thinking about getting the LCE headers as well, I'm in OC, how are you planning to handle the biannual smog inspection?

Well, according to DMV, "owners of vehicles six or less model years old will pay an annual smog abatement fee for the first six registration years instead of being required to provide a biennial smog certification." So I won't have to worry about it for a while.

When the time comes, I was just going to go smog it and see what happens. If they notice it and say it's not legal, I will point out that it has the smog pump connections like stock. If they don't buy that, I'll put the stock one back on. Only have to do every 2 years. Should be worth it.

I had a muffler first then switched to the header. My muffler sound went from a rumbling to a consistent smooth tone. Didn't really like it actually. In fact, getting a muffler for my Reg Cab was the worst decision I've ever made

Oops, I forgot the smiley face. I was obviously joking! :)

Yeah but, that smoother sound means your exhaust is flowing smoother which is better. Which muffler do you have?

I'm not sure, but wouldn't the thermostat keep the engine at pretty much the same temperature?

When the engine is warmed up, the thermostat is all the way open. It doesn't shoot for a particular temperature like the one in your house. So if the engine were running hotter, say due to not having a heat shield, or cooler due to the header getting rid of the exhaust more efficiently, the gauge would show it. Of course, I could be wrong.

I was thinking I might have to enhance the air circulation by adding scoops and ports, like this -

I had a magnaflow - it was on my previous reg cab. The sound wasn't awful but it droned so fucking bad I swear the small cab size turned into a reverb machine. Commuting home after a long day at work turned an already existing headache into a migrane lol

I believe that it does, as it's a compensatory mechanical device that opens proportionally with temperature. The header would likely make the most difference in really hot weather where the thermostat is already fully open.

I also had the same experience as you did with an 18" Magnaflow and the stock exhaust pipe and took it off after only a week...

...but the huge 22" long 5x11 oval Magnaflow is way quieter with no cab drone.

    Hey Dan, :)

If you don't mind the drive you're welcome to drop by and I'll be happy to help you install your header. You can also go for a ride and hear first hand for yourself what the Flowmaster sounds like inside the truck, before you order one. I can guarantee you that you'll be surprised. ;)
    Drop me a PM.

I'm still on the fence about how I feel about it.
I just want to call up URD and get a damn s/c already or magically come across 20k and go for a D4D swap

    Sorry about the delay.

    Kinda iffy about it.
Definitely easier/better to drive off the line.
    No huge improvements.
Actually made my exhaust time quieter, idk if that's the best word to use.....maybe "smoother" tone would be better (already had a magnaflow muffler installed).

I'm still kickin around the ideal of getting one.
I understand it's not a major power increase, but lowering the torque curve and maybe gaining a mile or so a gallon is why I'm considering a LCE.
My truck never see's 3k RPM :), I baby it but also get 28-29 mpg driving 70% rural country roads. I was hoping lighter wheels and maybe the LCE will increase the mileage?

    I usually shift at 2k
Less throttle needed to hit my 2k shift point now.

My 4.88 gears helped that out too though.

Shit, it was almost not driveable when it was bone stock. With the hills we have here I wish I went with 4:95 over 4:88
