Oh gotcha, well that's a quick easy fix at least, I would rather lose that than the UCA or a bent spindle :/ Those uniball bolts and the misalignment spacers are a over the counter 4x shop part too. After looking at your photos ...dude you were so lucky you were on a populated trail and those Jeepers showed up huh ! I take a lot of surf trips down to Baja in my truck and we are usually a couple of hours minimum from civilization. Over the years of going down there I have bent or broken one of everything so I always buy an extra and I have a pretty solid spare parts kit I carry now. I even keep a complete extra wheel hub assembly...threw a wheel bearing about 12hrs south of the border and got stuck for days waiting for one.

Hey Jon, here is the installation manual for the BDS kit : http://hcp4x4.com/attachment/55761-Tacoma.pdf

The weird thing is that it actually mounts with less hardware than the PC and does not use the braces either. Check out fig 20 & 31, I think when the DB's are tied together with a plate skid that provides the lateral reinforcement ? The guys building my skids thought the same thing. The ground clearance gained by the shallower DB is then lost because the diff and skid hangs down lower than the DB you can see what I'm talking about in the manual. You would want a measurement from the bottom of the skid plate to compare ground clearance.

Edit - same thing with Fabtech the diff hangs down below the DB.

The BDS kit comes with a skid plate so I'll measure to the bottom of that.

Guy who installed my lift has done thousands of lifts over the years and said the "support bars" PC and Fabtech use are for looks only. Said they have bushings in them, which means they are meant to move and flex. Said he even called PC and asked if he could leave them off for a customer and they told him no problem.

Not sure if that's all BS or not but I DO know these BDS kits are bulletproof, which is why I went with them. :D

Your upper and lower control arms have bushings as well as your leaf springs and shocks ;)

Ha ha ha! I think the guy who did my install was trying to make the point that if those bars were TRULY for bracing and holding the front end together, they'd be welded in.

I agree welding them would make them stronger but I do think that they serve a purpose, I've never seen it be an issue on a Tacoma but I've seen silverados have problems without them
