I wouldn't expect you to kill it. It was sweet! Not tasty, but sweet!

Was out the other day and saw this one in the middle of the trail... This was after he looked at me for a little while and then decided to climb the wall next to the trail.

If you become serious about concealed carry, you will ultimately want more than one choice to match where you are and what you are wearing. In colder weather a larger handgun under a vest or jacket is no problem, but if you want to take the kids to the zoo with shorts and a T-shirt, a holster is a little out-of-place and a little pocket gun makes more sense. As for the larger calibers, keep the loads down to maintain better control, because control is everything should you ever need to pull the gun.

We all know "take the kids to the zoo" means you're going to the ghetto to shoot up some coloreds!

Foglights are for fog, not oncoming traffic!
    Well-placed .380 beats a sloppy 40cal every time.
    Especially true for first-timers.

well ive been looking at some guns. ive held the glock 26, 27, 28, and 33 i believe. however ive come to like the .380's and the springfield xd .40 s&w. both have their advantages and disadvantages. i like how small and conealable the .380 is but the guy called it a "mosquito shooter" haha. i LOVE the xd .40, its not too big at all but definitely packs the punch. its not too big but will be a little more difficult to conceal.

i still have some thinkin to do. not sure which one i want to get. i might get both lol. carry the .380 in the summer months while keeping the xd in the truck, then carry the xd in the winter months

Don't you watch the news? Everyone who owns a gun is a racist right wing nut job who wants to kill the environment and the coloreds! ;)

Glad someone finally responded. Thought everyone might have taken me seriously there for a minute, and that's never good.

There are many different guns, And calibers out there. Everybody has their own opinion about them. But take time to form your own from experience because everyone is different, And have different tastes. And just because a gun looks cool, Does not mean it's effective. You do not have to spend $1,000 on a gun that will work better than any other one. The thing that makes a gun work is the shooter.

ive been researching for quite a while. i am definitely not basing my selection on looks only. it has to be powerful enough to be effective at stopping an adrenaline-rushed guy twice my size (worst case), accurate, light, concealable, and well built. also, i wouuld like to have a dao only with some sort of extrenal safety. though the kel tec i liked has a hammer lock only safety system which i can live with.

i like the springfield xd's, but they all seem to be a little too heavy and bulky to conceal easily. though i will want one for my home eventually. ive come to like the .380's and 9mm's. its just a matter of picking what fits in my hands the best and makes me feel comfortable

There is some great advice in this thread and some pretty horrible advice IMO. I wouldn't base a decision like this on opinions on a truck board. That said, I still feel obligated to put in my .02.

The caliber debate is an unending one, but it's getting less relevant as years go by and the effectiveness of smaller calibers improves. The 9mm holopoint cartridge has come a long way and absolutely will cause serious damage to major organs if placed well. Will a caliber starting with '4' do more damage? Sure, but how much more and at what expense? Capacity is one draw back. 9mms will often carry twice the rounds of thier .45 counterparts. But I think a larger consideration for you is that this is your FIRST gun. All too often, newbs start off with a big bore pistol at the advice of friends. These hand cannons can kick like mules and cause many new shooters to anticipate recoil in a way that builds horrible habits. The other side of the coin is that the tiny mouse guns, while wonderfully concealable, don't have the mass or the full grip for new shooters to easily control them either. Sounds like you've already decided on a semi-auto. My advice is to start with a medium caliber, perhaps a 9mm, with a full 4-fingered grip and at least a 3.5" - 4" barrel barrel. Get some good training and develop proper fundamentals. It will be clear to you then what your next purchase should be. And many medium sized 9mms as I've described above are very easily concealable depending on your frame. You're pretty safe going with any of the the major manufacturers used by law enforcement - Glock, Sig Sauer, S&W etc. from there, choose a weapon that fits your hand and points naturally for you. Beware of folks who say you must get a particular brand (or any particular model) and post a pic of theirs. Most likely, that is their only gun. They have no frame of reference and just want to show it off. Good luck.

I would stay away from karh. Ive heard acouple stories from range guys that they will blow apart in your hand while shooting. We have a guy out with a line of duty injury from that happening at the range.
