Irony is justifying poor technique, brought about by a lack of training and competency, with training and technique. If you applied this much effort to trigger discipline during the draw you could actually trust yourself and these officers with loaded weapons.

Your list doesn't surprise me though.

To each their own I guess. For me it's just too hard to understand not to have one in the chamber, but that's just from me being a Marine Rifleman and being in down and dirty. I feel more comfortable that way...

but like I said to each their own.

Why aren't Marines allowed to carry a round in the chamber in Afghanistan?

I shoot approximately 200 (pistol) rounds per week, each and every week, and have for many years. I train with local law enforcement on a regular basis and have been paid to be on the opposition force against National Guard troops in Florida training environments because of my skills in the woods and with weapons. We have the longest outdoor range (1,200 yards) in South Florida at the local gun club and I shoot against many of the best in the area.

Just because I do not agree with you does not mean I am not trained or have any experience. It just means I do not agree with you.

Marines do carry a round in the chamber when you're out on a mission or standing post. You don't just walk around condition one all the time. Contrary to popular belief, you're not in constant danger in Afghanistan.

..Well, if you were to conceal a weapon unloaded.. That'd kinda be like carrying a squirt gun around lol.
Yes, for sure pack a clip!

It is more dangerous to load and clear a pistol daily than it is to leave it loaded and in the holster.

SOPs are quite often based on the lowest common denominator, working with very little and poor training, and managed by desk jockies who are ignorant of the subject that they write regulations for.

I'm quite aware of how it works in reality. Tell it to those who don't.

It's hard to make a generalization of what a branch of the military is going to do, and I suspect the civilian pd is similar

Each unit is going to have a different procedure based on the mission, location and threat level

As long as you follow all weapons safety rules and know what condition your weapon is in and you know how to properly clear it. Then carrying one loaded in the chamber shouldn't be a problem. For those that say it is then train more and become more confident in your skills and abilities everytike I've seen a weapon go off on a ND. It's been bc of lack of focus and proper clearing procedures or a violation of safety rules.

But this is America an everyone is entitled to their opinions so I'm not hating. This is an interesting thread and I respect everyone's views.

Now let's all just get along and mod some tacomas

I'm not sure where you got your source about LAPD detective carrying without a round in the chamber, but you might want to recheck that.

My conceal carry is a 9mm revolver. So It's always ready to go.

For the ones who think they can draw and rack a slide quick enough.

You would need at least 21 feet if someone wasn't charging you. Where I'm from most confrontation usually happens at a distance less than that.

Also if I ever had to hold someone at gun point, I'd keep a safe distance. Someone with a knowledge in martial arts can disarm you within a range of 3-5 feet. I'll never let anyone get close enough where my muzzle would touch their head.

Very true. If someone is within arm's reach of me, they're getting disarmed.

Then you're decision to carry an unloaded gun is even less correct.

I would take you up on that but you would be the one needing medical attention. If we are that close your gun would not make it out of the holster in time. But that brings up a whole other conversation and it doesn't involve a bullet in the chamber. I do respect the fact that people don't carry chambered though.
    This.

    Very true.

Youre giving too much credit to the 21 foot rule. That number came about after a study showing how long it takes for a WELL TRAINED and PREPARED officer to draw and fire 1 well placed round from an exposed level 1 holster.

That is a person who shoots regularly, a holster with only a thumbstrap and being told ahead of time YOU ARE IN HARMS WAY.

Once you change any of those variables the distance increases dramatically. Fact is if you ever need to engage in sd, at best you will know about it when you are 1 arms length away from the danger.

Im fast. When i was on duty i literally never lost a quckdraw contest against some other very fast shooters. But to be that fast, you would hear a sonic boom when i moved.

Good method. If you cannot carry it chambered safely, don't do so.
But if you cannot carry it loaded, don't carry it.

The only reason I carry is for personal and community safety... so that has to be the first consideration.
