I understand that the Maestro is a better linkage system and i watched Giants little video on it, but what does it really do better than a "normal" system?

Makes it where you can ride however many miles of crazy trails everyday without feeling like you were ever on a bike. Takes away any pogo stick action standing and hammering the pedals. Makes crazy trails feel like riding down your street. Makes it seem like you're nestled in the meat curtains. Yeah, all that:D

    Yeah.
Lots of internet info on the different designs, differing opinions, virtual arguments, and various levels of internet butthurt.

The DW Link design has been "borrowed" and rebranded by several major manufacturers who have changed the linkage locations and lengths to tune their suspension. It is obviously a good design and one of my favorites, although I don't have one now.

Rather than having a fixed pivot location just above the bottom bracket that the rear swing arm rotates around (fixed arc the length of the swing arm), the DW Link design moves the center of the arc to a virtual position in front of the bottom bracket, just behind the front tire. This results in a smoother arc, or different wheel path as the bike moves through its travel. The idea is to keep the rear wheel on the ground as well as reduce pedal bob, etc.

Specialized has their FSR, Trek the ABP, the various DW Links, and some other wacky ones like the GT setup. They all have their own claims. What is best for you is a personal preference.

I would generally stay away from single-pivot designs, or anything that has just been released.

Well, Whistler can be a cruel bitch sometimes. On day three of a 5 day trip, I crashed and broke my collar bone. Had a blast up until that point. Those crabapple hits are a motherfucker!

I guess I need to invest in liners. 6th tube now dead from thorns. In under 60 miles. Any other ideas? Probably should buy better tires but if I can do liners until these tires are done I'd rather do that.

Yeah definitely not fun at all. I can't complain because we still managed to ride 90% of the trails up there, some multiple times... So it was still a great trip. Even though I had to leave early, the shuttle company drove me to the airport for free, amd when I got to the airport, Alaska Air got me on and earlier flight, and upgraded me to first class free of charge so that I'd be more comfortable. Now I have to see the surgeon tomorrow and get surgery scheduled.
