Or just ability to haul crap. The drive isn't all that fun, but I like being able to do whatever I want with it.

What were the actual gallons pumped at fillup???

This is simple math, distance traveled divided by ACTUAL gallons used (not tank capacity) equal miles per gallon...

There is no other way to do this.

No, you don't divide by 21. Even if you drove until the truck completely ran out of fuel, I bet you the tank is not dry. This is not hard. Divide by the number that says "gallons" on the pump when you fill up.

I have about the same mileage on my truck right now, 1200-something.

Fuelly will catch up on my next fill up, but according to my UltraGauge, the first tank got 20.5 MPG (with about half of that Interstate), the current tank is at 19.6.

The problem with your method is that there is probably 5 or 6 gallons left in the tank when you filled up.

You are doing it wrong. No wonder it sucks. Highly inaccurate at best.

    Do it this way:

    1. Fill the tank up until it clicks off once or twice at most.

    2. Reset the trip meter or write down the mileage on the odometer.

    3. Drive the tank until it is down to 1/4 tank or less.

    4. Fill the tank again until it clicks off one or twice. Note how many gallons it took from the pump.

    5. Look at the trip meter to see how many miles you drove or figure it from the present reading on the odometer minus the previous fill up mileage.

    6. Actual Miles driven divided by Actual gallons used = Actual MPG

Real world example: my first full tank, V6 6-speed manual AC 4x4 SR5, running 88 octane mid-grade from Phillips 66.

    Miles since last fill: 332
Gallons to fill it: 17.52 (gauge read about one-tenth full)

    Miles per gallon: 18.9

    Way beyond expectations!

I was getting 15 mpg at first and then after 10k mi. I went up to about 17 mpg then at about 18k now getting 17.8 mpg with 3 inch lift and heavy tires/wheel combo. Give it some time I am guessing your at about 14.5 if your pumping in almost 18 gal of gas.

I drive pretty conservatively and for the first time got 20 mpg dead last tank. I was pretty happy. I got that going from Las Vegas to Phoenix.
