Front diff seal leaking. Askin for help/opinion

    thanks for this thread, i have a small drip at the drivers side seal too. I think mine is due to an aftermarket lower spec axle shaft diameter, or the seal, or a combination of the two. I also need to install the ECGS bushing i picked up a while back. I got my factory axle rebooted so it will definitely be going back in and the aftermarket returned if i can find the receipt.:eek:

    What is this RTV? i may get some to be safe when putting in the new seal.

    I punch seals all the time.A little trick in the heavy truck industry is to put some grease on the spring inside the seal before punching it in.Sometime if the seal goes in cockeyed it flexes and the spring pops off.Also the seal pullers can damage the bore in the housing the seals get pushed in as it was stated earlier.When removing a seal always try and pry from a higher spot if it possible.That way if you do dig the housing up it is above the oil level.It will still leak but not as much as if it was below the fluid level.Before punching the seal you should inspect the bore in the diff for scratches and the fitment of the seal on the shaft.Before removing the seal you should look at the depth the seal sits in the housing for reference.Before removing the shaft check for excessive play in the shaft going into the diff.Maybe the needle bearing fell apart and the cv is floating on the seal.Also the cleaner the bore and the sealing surface on the shaft the better.I like to use a real real light coat of gear oil on the shafts sealing surface to help it slide together smoothly.

    Got off early and took it apart... it all looks good. Not sure what the fuck.
    ill try greasing the seal and sharft when I put it in in the morning.

    I dont know.. the only fucked up thing I saw was they fucked my spindal seal up. Thats not going to cause it to leak.
