I didn't have any luck with the Redline ezdown kit for my 2010. Here it is installed.

As you can see if you look carefully, the support cable doesn't have enough room in the cavity to loop down with the strut.

How have others solved this problem? I just think there isn't enough space for both the strut and the cable.

Unfortunately I think that is normal, all the ones I have seen including my own have the same prob. The cable will end up pretty mangled after a while.

There was another thread about this. Iirc the fix was to remove the plastic tailgate liner and trim a 1/4" or so notch from it to make room for the cable.

I was wondering if that would be a viable solution. I don't have the EZDown and don't plan on getting one but that was the first thing that popped in my mind. I suppose if you put something heavy on the tailgate it might not be good but rarely do I ever put anything heavy on the tailgate.

Does it function as intended with the cable removed?

I want one of these for some reason, and after seeing this maybe not.

But if it functions as intended with the cable removed, I could keep the cable in the storage box for when I need to haul my 4 wheeler and park it on the tail gate.
