    Alright, so we are in Missoula right now but can't move into our new house until the 2nd of Aug so we have some time to kill. And since I'm currently living at the mother in-laws, i'm looking for suggestions for a 3-5 day road trip/camp trip. We went north through Glacier last summer so something new. Was thinking east, heard the b pit is really nice this time of year, over through bozo then down through red lodge and over 212? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Additionally, for anyone in the Missoula area who wants to help unload a uhaul on the 2nd, I'll buy the beer and meat!:cheers::cheers:

    Over to Red Lodge and into the beartooths is definitely worthy if the highway is open. Can make a loop and go thru the northern section of Yellowstone and come back to bozo from there.

    That would definitely be a good route - have you been through Yellowstone before? I'd take a day or two there if you can. The beartooth is open but not much else up that way - I was up there last week and there was still lots of snow at the top. If you go through Red Lodge check out the roads to hellroaring plateau and glacier lake that are on the north end - there is a sign for the FS campgrounds, take that turn and the roads are just beyond the camps. If you want camping suggestions along that route let me know what sort of campers you are. Oh, and bring lots of bug spray - the mosquitoes and flies are horrible this year!

    I HAVE TO drive the Beartooth Highway sometime before I go back to school, got less than a month left. Never been on Hellroaring or Glac Lake, I'm assuming those are quite worthwhile if you are recommending them? Think I could run Beartooth and both of those FS roads in one day?

    Got less than a month left out here... starting to feel the pressure! :rolleyes:

    With the truck we are pretty much fine with primitive sites, ie only need a flat spot for a tent. Bug spray, ya I've learned my lesson from high cascade lakes, always have some stocked in the truck now. Bonus, I like the smell of deet. Funny cause that is the area I was looking at camping around. Any inside info you have would help. Will probably be there early to mid next week so shouldn't be busy, right?
    Yellowstone is an option, but think it might be kind over run right now. Might save that trip for later.

    There are camp sites all along the road to Glacier Lake - I like the ones further up, out of the trees. It gets pretty busy on the weekends but if you go there mid week it shouldn't be too bad. Its a decent road, little rough the further you go but not bad. There are a few spots along the road to the Plateau but you're right next to the road so not a lot of privacy there. There was a large boulder that you have to drive around, don't think they've moved it, and a couple areas get pretty narrow so just hope you don't meet someone coming the opposite direction.

    You might want to check out Chief Joseph Highway too, great scenery along there as well. Yellowstone will be busy but if you're going to do the Beartooth Highway it would be the shortest (maybe not the fastest) way back home. Otherwise you've got to backtrack through Red Lodge and the interstate.
    If you do go through Yelly there are lots of places around West Yellowstone to explore and camp - some busier than others.
    Or the Boulder River drainage south of Big Timber is pretty cool too. Lots of camping up there and good fishing too. Get off the interstate at Big Timber, head south on McLeod St and that turns into Hwy 298. Follow that to Natural Bridge Falls State Park - you have to stop and hike around here, very cool area - and then follow the dirt road into the mountains. There are lots of cabins on the first few miles of road but eventually you'll get into forest service land and can camp just about anywhere.

    Does anyone have the link for the what to check on 1st gens when buying?

    My dad found a doublecab in helena that is a amazing deal I may jump on.

    NVM finally found it.

    So everyone what do you think? 03 doublecab trd 84000 miles for 14k?

    Only downside is I am not a fan of the manual, even though thats all the double cabs come in, and its the sandstone color, just not my personal favorite.

    Mac, I hope you meant its an auto, otherwise its is a very rare d-cab. All they came with were autos.

    Is it a v6 with the e-locker? 84K is a good find. 14K is reasonable. No frame rust?

    ya, i did. IF it had the swap Im pretty sure I would be driving to pick it up now lol.

    I believe it has e-locker, my dad saw it and said it was a trd model. Not sure on the frame, will have him check it out again this week. Its in helena and im in Casper still so I have yet to see it

    If its the 2.7L with the auto, will be no locker in it. Even tho it is a TRD model. Then its not worth the 14K IMO.

    According to the listing it is the 3.4 so were good there.

    Ya i know its not, would just be sweet to have one. We will see how it plays out, not gonna hold my breathe, but the owner is calling me back tomorrow. Maybe he will be willing tomeet me in Billings to look at it.
