Once it gets to looking like this, a dab of toothpaste takes the carbon off super easy.

Thanks for the input guys. I've read that over gassed leads to FTF, FTE and such and would like to avoid that. On the positive side, I saw a chart of gas port openings that Colt Manufacturing uses on their rifles and for a 10.5" they use .093 If that's good for Colt I'm hoping it'll be OK on my build.

I won't be running suppressed. Sounds like a heavier buffer and spring is the way to go. I'm not concerned about recoil....it's a 556/223

Thanks again guys for helping a noob.

The difference is building better firearms to proper spec which increases dependability and accuracy. It wasn't to long ago that people were buying ARs and could never expect better than 2" groups. Now I guarantee sub minute accuracy for all my upper halves. All my personal ARs shoot quarter size groups at 200 yards off a bipod. It's because of being more technical and having more understanding of such things.

    Chrome lined or melonited barrel?
I'll be getting a 16" 6.8 SPC barrel soon and the 2 barrels I'm looking at are exactly the same price.

I'm leaning towards the melonited barrel as it also has 5r rifling.

I'll get links up for the barrels ASAP.

5r polygonal rifling if you're wanting accuracy

If you're getting a 6.8 barrel do not get a chrome lined barrel. AR15Performance melonite treated 5R 1:11.25 twist barrel is what we is always for our 6.8 barrels. They are part of the reason we can assure such accuracy.

    http://ar15performance.com/barrels

If they are out we have 16s and 18s on the way also.

So not to sound totally biased, Bison makes great stainless bbls as does Wilson Combat

Yea I have heard great things about the doctored red dot... How is it when you break your cheek weld though??? Seeing as it sits a little higher and all

I don't need tack driving accuracy, 1 MOA is plenty good enough.

I was looking at the 16'' ARP on your website, looks like my best option when I decide to buy.

I don't think I want a SS barrel, we have a Browning A-bolt with a syn stock and SS barrel and at dawn and dusk that barrel lights up like a beacon.

Tell you what, I hated it until the first time I had to shoot laying sideways in the dirt with no way to look through the main optic. It's also great for reactive scenarios because your head is up, so you maintain good peripheral vision.
As far as cheek weld is concerned, if I am taking quick aimed shots at short range where I don't want to take the extra second to settle into the ACOG, I learned I can just cant it 45Âş as if I were going to use an offset red dot, except it's over my left eye instead. For me, this actually works better than using a red dot with my right eye since I'm right eye dominant. So now I'm tracking my target with my dominat eye and the dot is superimposed using my non dominant eye, if that makes sense. Not a huge difference, but definitely a difference.

Oh, and it makes weak side shooting a snap as well.

Wow that's really interesting....gonna look more into it... It would work for me when at a 45 degree angle cuz I'm left I dominant... Hmmmmmm man thanks for the info with this and my bolt gun haha

Yeah that's why I use the ARP barrels. I've been known to spray paint my stainless barrels for that reason.

The ARP barrels are great for hunting. Which is what we concentrate on. It's just our obsession that causes us to build 1/2 and 1/4 MOA hunting rifles lol. You won't be disappointed and they are priced right especially for what you get.
