lol Tack !! Loved that movie, seems hardly anyone knows it .. I shoot out movie quotes all the time. Ox45 talls man

Yes, I have 2014 sr5 v6 pre-runner .. comes with fog lights, upgrade stereo and tow package.

You can get sport too, it adds better rims, color bumpers, mirrors, a hood scoop and different material seats.

I knew there was a SR5 Pre-Runner, and a Pre-Runner with the Sport Package makes sense, but I have never heard of or seen a Pre-Runner Off Road, and it makes no sense to have a 2wd TRD Off Road Pre-Runner.

The freeway on-ramp I use to go home from work goes uphill and turns at the same time. Once last January there was about 5" of snow on the roads (pre-runner people only: sometimes it snows faster than the plow trucks can clean it up. They can't be everywhere at once). I pulled up to the stop light and I saw a lifted 2nd. Gen Tacoma a couple cars in front of me. It had Texas plates and a pre-runner emblem on the tailgate. When the light turned green it couldn't make it up the on-ramp and the person in the car directly behind it got impatient, swerved around and flipped the guy off as it effortlessly rallied up the on-ramp. The car was a maroon PT Cruiser with fake woodgrain siding. And THAT'S what is wrong with pre-runners.

Damn you are such a negative nancy. Why? lol

You said it doesn't make sense in buying a Pre runner and converting it to 4wd. Well in some cases a 4wd is about 3-5 k more expensive than a 2wd.

I have spent and will end up spending less than 2k - right at 2k to do the swap myself. The only thing that is not calculated in that price is the crossmember conversion. And I see that as no different than welding on sliders or going to the highly loved SAS swap. Either way I highly doubt that will cost anywhere near 1k. So I am going to be 4wd for 1-3k less than buying a 4wd.

Also. I paid cash for my truck after I sold my mustang... So it may not be the case with everyone. But I am free and clear so why tie myself down with another payment. The 2k I am spending is not going to get me into a 4 year old 4wd truck with less than 65K.

Also as mentioned before I enjoy modding my truck. I was very apprehensive about it before until I met some of the guys on here. And they showed me probably the most fun I've ever had with a vehicle in my life. So in order to play I've gotta make changes and be somewhat drastic about it.

And lastly Since my truck is paid off. When the day comes that I no longer want to drive it daily It will become a dedicated trash hauler, winter vehicle, and trail rig. And I will buy another truck for daily driving.

I'm not trying to crawl up your ass or anything I thoroughly enjoy reading a lot of your posts. But there is my justification.

The "Built not bought" concept could apply to prerunner to 4x4 conversions. Just like it apples to those who put their own lifts on compared to those who bought their truck lifted from the dealer.

I agree I would not do it that's why I bought 4×4 in the 1st place. But I understand why people do it.

Got a TRD Off Road myself and as was said above the rear electronic locker that it comes with is a big difference maker. It comes on the second I leave the paved road. No grey wire or yellow wire mods required. It shuts off ABS and traction control and gets me up hills that I otherwise would have no business even trying.

    Nothing.

They are lighter, faster and more reliable than a 4x4 Taco.

Taking nothing away from a 4x4 Taco, if you need a 4x4.

How is it a pre-runner is more reliable then a 4x4? I don't see anyone having issues with their 4x4.

    Again, everyone has a choice.

I use my truck and put about 25000 miles on it a year. It is important for me:

    1. Get good gas mileage.
    2. Maintain good alignment to resist wearing tires out quickly.
    3. Keep insurance premiums as low as possible.
    4. Keep yearly maintenance costs as low as possible.
    5. Vehicle has to look clean and presentable at all times. The last thing I would want to do is show up at someones house with a vehicle that is $30,000.00 with scratches, dents, and is less than a year old.

Again. My daily driver has to work for me and provide the best return possible. It is also important to me and my family that the equipment is in the best condition possible in case it has to be sold. I am looking for the best return on the investment. Invest in equipment, expect a return, and take care of it.

If I wanted to offroad, I would buy a vehicle to load up and take offroading. That vehicle could be beat on without worries.

If you are comfortable spending about $30,000.00, and beating the crap of it that is your decision. The only recommendation I can provide is make sure you pay cash for it.
