Box Rocket - 2003 TRD Doublecab

Hey Adam, I've been thinking about picking up a TG front bumper like yours but wanted to ask you a few questions before I do... Do you like yours? Have any issues with it? I noticed on their site it says "Not for towing", you have a D-ring on yours, do you use it as a recovery point?

I have less than 24 hours with mine..lol..but I love it. I got one of those d-ring trailer hitch thingy magigs....im sure it would help if I needed assistance getting out of something. I was also thinking of adding some d -ring attachmdnts to the frame support, might look dumb with 3 d -rings tho. Hope its ok to post a pic in ur thread adam...

adam has done some pretty cool shit with his rig and it seens to be holding up great...cant beat the price

 

Who would want to tow in reverse?



I've used my homemade junk to move gooseneck trailers before using the front receiver. Not something I'd recommend doing

 

The "Not for towing" is TGs way of letting you know that it hasn't been tested for towing (a rather rigorous and expensive process). It is meant for recovery only. Probably will do fine in towing but no tests to verify and liability lands on you if used in such a way.

 

I really like my TG bumper. It's held up great and taken some good bumps. As for the receiver as a recovery point, I've used it plenty of times and it works fine. I figure if you can winch with the bumper you can use it for recovery.

 

So far I've pushed down 3 trees with mine and its held up great, not to mention how much it improved my approach angle, loving mine so far!

Haha, ya I didn't mean for towing, that was just more a question of recovery, wasn't sure why they would put a towing warning on a front bumper.

They were small trees, and I had to make me a place to turn around, some how ended up on a 4wheeler trail.....

 

Adam, when your steering rack was going out did you have play in the guides? I'm trying to figure out if the play in the rack could be causing this "grind" or "rock In the tire" sound I'm hearing mainly on driver side or so it seems. It appears to happen after 40mph and gets worse when slowing down from a high speed like 60 or 70 mph. At highway speeds I have a wobbly steering wheels because of the play in the rack and this sound has started to happen as the play has gotten worse. The sound seems to be in sync with the rotation of the tire. I've checked the bearings and they felt fine. So I took it in to get an alignment and balance/ rotation, but it's still there. When getting the alignment I was able to see how bad the play was by them shacking the wheel while I was watching the rack. Sorry for the long winded rant but was wondering if you experienced any of this when your oem rack was toast.

 

I didn't have any of those symptoms with my OEM rack. I replaced it because it was leaking.

Cool. Why are you in SLC? I'll be downtown most of the week. And I'll be at the Outdoor Retailers show at the Salt Palace tomorrow and Thursday. It might be afternoon before I'm down there tomorrow. I destroyed a tire today so getting new tires put on in the morning.

New tires are on. The KM2s feel noticeably lighter than the MTRs. I don't think the weight difference is really all the much but it sure feels like it. Got them siped so they should be good to go once the snow flies again.
