This is for small parts that i dont wanna cut with reliefs and bend then weld. Like frame plates. I wouldn't even try to bend a skid on one of these or the frame plates that are 53" L

Thanks! I definitely think school is a good idea. There's a lot of fine print that I'm always learning about that would have been helpful during the fundamentals. Don't let anyone tell you you can't do it on your own though.

You'll forget about that when you have to run about 500 feet of torch line thru a ship while drop testing the lines. 10hr day 6 hr set up. WTF you get nothing done.

Safety precautions are the big thing that seems to be on a need to know basis when you are learning on the job. Hopefully they get mentioned before it's too late...

I set up my new acetylene regulator yesterday and thought the booklet was wrong when it said 5-7 psi. I never realized it was that low since this was the first time I've had to adjust a regulator.

I work in those plants. Believe it or not, it gets much worse. Haha not just pipe design wise but throw in boiling hot pipes, random steam shooting out everywhere, scolding hot water dripping everywhere, chemicals that melt your leather gloves on your hand, itchy insulation everywhere ...... combined with wearing a harness that goes up your ass, a hard hat that gets knocked off every time you move, goggles that fog up as soon as you start breathing and a ladder or lift that you can't reach when you need it. Fun stuff

With all the OSHA regs I wouldn't want to do that my whole life. There are enough of them in a dedicated manufacturing facility where all the unsafe conditions are designed out, if possible.

The truck drivers in North Dakota make more money than the welders.

That's about the starting rate around here for welders. John Deere pays over that to start and you get to work in A/C.

SAS, with tons, 3linked front and rear…I stopped saving receipts for my sanity
I am using hems and jonny joints in aluminum links on my Tacoma SAS and rear 3 links. I am not sure if there are any weld in thread inserts for aluminum tube. I assume you are talking about an insert like you use for building links out of 4130 or DOM.
Not sure of what you application is but if you are using it for links on a truck I would stay with solid aluminum rod that has been bored out and threaded. there are a host of venders that make custom length links from aluminum including us

    hope this helps

I worked at Beaumont tx and they wanted a 5/8" weave every weld. Needless to say each rod did 4" lol

Yeah I'm surprised they want you to weave 6010. I can't think of a real world situation where you would do that.

I picked up this drill press tonight from craigslist, seems pretty decent, the belt is loose on the lowest speed, gotta fix that but otherwise seems a hell of a lot better then anything I could buy new for $60. Came with a steel table and a decent vise, no markings on the vise. Not much info on the webs about it, anyone know anything?

    Trans World Steel inc B1716

    thanks
