    5100's all around. Front's set at 1.75" 265/75/16 Duratracs.
Ok so a few months ago I had a local shop install a set of Bilstein 5100's front and rear. I had the fronts set at 1.75" on my stock coils (SR5). well I have developed a rattle in the front. It's almost like something is loose. I started looking around and I found something that looks strange. The top of the shock does not seem to be bolted down on each side like there is a bushing missing or something. I had a 99 2wd tacoma that was lowered and I know that should be tight up there. The bolt is tightened all of the way down but as you can see in the pics the threads don't go all of the way down. Can anyone tell me if there is something missing. There is a bushing there but it's not big enough to fill the gap but I also fill like maybe the gap is too big. Pic are below.

Can anyone tell me what is going on. I believe the metal piece that I am holding up is the part that is rattling.

That should definitely not be like that. Looks like a part is missing or your coils are compressed so much that the shock mount up top isn't even touching

Edit: That top nut should be sitting right on top of your top plate

The shop put the washer that is supposed to be on the bottom of the plate on top.

That's exactly what I thought but I don't know what I should do. I really don't want to take it back to the shop that installed them as I don't really trust them after letting it roll out like this. I really pisses me off because I typically work on my own stuff and I know I should have checked it before I left.

That makes more sense. I would say that the correct washer is on the bottom.

Here's a picture of my 5100's and coil. If I were you and had a place to work on this I would do it myself. I put mine on myself and it wasn't that bad. I rented a cheapo coil spring compressor from autozone and had no problems.

Looks like you are missing the "cushion retainer" (see pic below).

Also looks like you are missing the plastic dust boot. If you do not want to use the dust boot that is fine, but you still need to install the metal bushing that is inside the plastic boot.

Well it looks like I will take it back to the shop and yell at them and make them fix it. I will stand there and make sure they install it correctly. I should have known they fucked it up because the first time I went to pick it up they had the bottom spring perch? I think that's what it's called (the thing the spring sets on) turned upside down.

Thanks for the help guys. I am going to see what I can do tomorrow. This really pisses me off. I am afraid to take it apart myself because I am not sure what parts are missing.

Ok guys can someone give me the part numbers for the Sub-assembly along with the cushion retainers and the bushings? We are ordering the parts to fix it and they want to go ahead and replace the whole top assembly to make sure it is good. Any help would be appreciated.
