I'm from Oahu and I learned on my 56 Baby window bug! My Dad had a 23 window bus. Grew up VWs and Toyota. I only like old skool VWs

I've got a 73 pop top in orange lol, was handed down. That trip sounds awesome...I'll make one of them eventually some day. Does anyone run stock tacomas on those outings?

I took my truck stock to Liberty and everybody there almost laughed at me. By the end of the day, nobody was laughing because I actually kept pace and only ended winching at one spot where everybody had to winch.

Took my stock truck to Tahuya and watched Will blow his rear end and later saw Ben's truck after drowning, and all I did was bend the brackets for my nerf bars.

If you are thinking about the WABDR trip, then get your camping gear together. From everything everybody has found so far, this trip is more about scenic views, and it sounds almost like cars could make the trip.

There are videos on youtube of motorcycles doing each leg of it. Looks more like forest service roads than trails.

Theres only one part I saw on those vids that would be a little dicey in a car. As long as you have a 4wd or prerunner, no worries though.

With 285s you should only need to do some cutting near the base of the flare near the cab mount area. I had no problems with my rears until I went to 255

    speaking of rubbing and cutting....

Why are my front wheels not centered in the wheel well? They are totally closer to the cab mount instead of centered. Every other Taco I see has their front tires perfectly centered in the well.

WHY? I only have 265/75/16 and I rub a lot while wheeling. I'm just worried it will be a greater problem as I increase tire size.

I'm in Lynnwood, not far from you. Do you have a place to work? I don't living in an apartment atm. I did the service on my Tacoma at my storage locker where most of my tools are, there didn't seem to be any rules against disassembling vehicles but it's gotta be back together and out by the time the gate locks.

I am not sure why they designed it that way but mine is the same, closer to the rear of the wheel well.

As far as rubbing it doesn't totally have to do with the tires. You need to take into account the rims width, back spacing and offset. The rims I have stick out quite a bit more then stock and I jumped from a 245 to a 285. It made a hidious noise until I trimmed but I did do a cab mount chop so I had no issues wheeling.

I am without a lift, but same size tires, and it isn't centered on my truck either. I have heard it rubbing at 1 full turn right, and found it is the plastic trim that is a little loose after I accidentally tore the mudflap off.

Are you refering to the wheel being centered in the wheel well or the clearance issue?

Casters would only change the angle of the rim/tire a little bit. Plus you wouldn't really want to base your alighnment on clearance of the wheel well/cab mount.

Both, what are your caster numbers at? I thought caster affects where your wheel/tires are in your wheel well. no?

camber changes the angle of the tire/rim
