What about the other clamps at the end that hold the other leafs together? Won't the AAL hit those?

I called Wheelers and they said to just grind it off and use the clamp that's on the AAL.

Really ??, See, thats bullshit if they're going to mass produce an AAL why not take that into consideration when they design it, should'nt have to cut/grind anything thats still on the truck (oem)

 

I think he said those clamps position can vary slightly so sometimes they might interfere and sometimes they don't...

hi Chris question how is the ride after installing the AAl I have a 2013 Tacoma trd I installed a 2.5 lift in front and a 1.5 block lift on the rear lost my ride as soon as I lifted the rear should I cancel the blocks and go with AAl all im looking for is as near factory ride just curious on the difference on the ride compared to blocks all info much appreciated Wayne

 

Completely agree with Chris! My 2005 Tacoma was night and day after getting rid of the original 'crap' and going with Icon shocks all around (resi in back, although overkill for my purposes) and Icon AAL. You will NOT be disappointed. Surf around, I got a good deal on the AAL from a smaller outfit, although I don't remember their name anymore. Its been a while.
I wish I had Icons on my 2007 FJ! Bilsteins are fine, but they are no ICONS!!!

 

Just to confirm what's been brought up, with the Icon, and possibly also with the Wheeler's 3 leaf AAL, when installing on the OEM four leaf pack one of the factory leaf clamps per side must been cut/ground away.

Now in the case of Icon...

What they fail to mention, and I've seen this personally on another 2014 DCSB TRD OR, is that when installing their 3 leaf AAL on a vehicle running the factory four leaf pack, the forward most AAL pack clamp on the drivers side comes in contact with the fuel tank mount. I also heard from a couple members on this site with the same problem, varying in severity.

Installing the bolt so that the threads/nut face outwards towards the wheel lessen the severity of the issue, but after that and some grinding of the clamp itself minor contact is still made under daily driving conditions.

I spoke to Icon about it, and their solution was just taking some measurements and if it looks like it'll work, flipping that leaf around and running it backwards. If the clamp isn't hitting anything with the spring reversed, then leave it. I haven't done this because I'm not a huge fan of the idea. Instead I'm trying to find a bolt with a thinner head to replace the Icon supplied one on the clamp. That and/or a little more grinding. They sum the problem up to be Toyota having huge tolerance allowances, up to one inch (their words, not mine). I dunno about all that but whatever.

Well I was on the fence about doing this myself or not but I think I'm going to give it a try. Thanks chris for the write up and detailed instructions.

But I do have one question. Bolting the shocks back up concerns me a little bit. I have read the whole thread and really haven't seen much mention on it. But are they not under a little pressure or real hard to get lined up? Thanks.
