Weathertech floor liner mod, do you want to lock down your stock mats inside of them?

Weathertech floor liners moded to hold OEM floor mats, weathertech vent visors, Toyota bed mat, LEER 100XL cap, hood gasket mod to stop whistling.
After owning a 2006 with Weathertech floor liners and having them conveniently locked down inside of my floorliners, I was disappointed that I could not do the same with my '13 or '14 because of the twist locks.

First off... I assume no responsibility for the info about to be provided, it is for your information only :D.

The problem is that both the floorliner AND the mat have lockdown inserts. Below shows pictures of the floorliner with the plastic inserts installed from the factory (#2 picture). The first picture shows them removed after taking a dremmel to the clear plastic ring and slicing it to allow it to be removed. The #3 picture shows the stock floormats installed inside of the Weathertech floorliners and LOCKED DOWN! Doing this removed the floorliner lockdown ring and allows the floor mat lockdown ring to fit through both. It is very tight to lock them down, I actually used a pair of duckbill pliers. I fully expect things to loosen up after being installed for a while. I'll call it a success... no more sliding floor mats!

I spoke to Weathertech and they were very illusive about my question of will this work. They were nice enough to send me a set of replacement insert in case my experiment didn't work.

Why use both the liner and the mat though?

For gods sake this reminds me of grandmas couch that had plastic over it to protect the cover that protected the couch.

Sometimes you know the girl's gonna be dirty so you double-wrap for extra protection.... (just a guess as to what the OP's thinking).

^Also a good thought. Either way it's kinda overkill.

Not quite. More like a plastic cover to protect the plastic covering the couch.

Does the Weathertechs settle down into the floor like it should, with the mats underneath? I'm very  by the use of both.

This is stupid. We're all collectively of a lower intelligence because this thread exists.

My wife had plastic floor mats and towels over the stock floor mats in her Lexus.

It drove me fuckin nuts. So I got her weathertechs instead. No more stupid looking floors.

Id take the stock mats out and throw them in a closet. They would be worth a mint in 20 years when they can no longer be found anywhere.
I remember looking for mats for my '89 Prelude, they were like rare collectables on eBay in shit condition. New/near new they were more than my car was worth.

stock floormats suck. i had the all weather ones when i bought my truck. there was a hole in them from the heel of my left foot within a few months. $200 floor mats. i bought a $20 set at walmart and i've been using them for 5 years now and they still look brand new.

He has the factory all weather on top of the liner in the picture. I would just throw the old all weathers on craigslist and just use the weathertechs the way they where meant to be. There is no need for extra protection over weathertechs, I have had mine literally full of mud and got nothing on the carpet.
