91 (highest available here) seems to work the best for me as far as mpg's and general "seat of the pants" feel...

I usually get .5-1 mpg better on the 91 vs. 87

You don't drive much at high altitudes, huh? ;)

Octane 85 is only at the mid-western states.. and mountain region. that's their regular for them... the regular folks from the right and left coast gets the 87... but 85 works only for high altitude. Otherwise the truck would die!

91, but if I had 93 around here I would use that instead...

Anything over 9:1 comp ratio should use 91 to prevent pinging in the event that you need to be at high RPMs, also burns better/cleaner, and is not that much more expensive...

Is ethanol bad for the engine? I never heard much about it other that it decreases your gas mileage a bit.

I just got mine but I am running 94 octane. With any fuel you have to run a few tanks before your computer calibrates fully for different octanes... anyways I will let you know what my fuel millage is when I get a better Idea

most stations up here in edmonton alberta canada have 78 89 and 91 octane. I use a gas station called Huskey up here which runs 90 as there regular 92 and 94 there price for 94 is the same as what ever 91 costs every where else and with my little supercharged GM 91 was mandatory but i decided for the same money I would see how the 94 ran. I found that I was getting about 60 more miles a tank and a huge difference in throttle response and acceleration

from what I understand you can run an E85 gas in motors provided you tune for it... In the Ecotec world there is a company called zzperformance and they have actually tuned a standard GM ecotec motor to run the fuel. Following that there have been a few people with some positive results. This is the only thread at the moment I can find http://www.redlineforums.com/forums...tions/41895-finally-ebs-e85-dyno-results.html

I just make sure to avoid Ethanol (in any mixture). My truck runs like crap on that stuff.

So do I. Since it was designed to take advantage of 91, I run it (93).

I spent 2 years using 92/93 in my Impala SS where it was recommended. Sticking with 87 on the Taco. Runs great and I'm pleased with my mileage so far.

People here talk about avoiding Ethanol??? I think they work fine on my truck. Most of the gas station in NJ is 10% Ethanol. Ethanol sure does eat the fuel line on the lawn mower, but for vehicle... they have been pretty good! I use BP as much as i can... I will go to Shell or Sunoco here and there... but not my way to work or home... Anyone use Shell Super with Nitrogen? Any better performance???

Mine has been running much better on 87 as compared to 91. The 91 didn't increase mpg. at all. I ran three tanks through it and defenitely proved it likes the 87 best.

not to many, love it the way it is

I have noticed quite an improvement using shell super, plus it is the only top tier gas in my area.
if you can find gas without ethanol you will get better gas mileage, ethanoL mixed gas brings the mpg down quite a lot.

if we are going to use ethanol type gas we need to get it from sea vegetables and algae instead of corn, algae that is cultivated explodes like rabbits on Viagra

There's no cow. But the idea that gas still causes engine deposits is pretty well good and disproven. Also, octane level does not affect the amount of detergents in the gasoline.
