ugh CA laws have stumped me again. So apparently if you build an AR pistol on a receiver transferred as "Other" and make the Overall length over 26", you can slap a VFG on it and it becomes classified not as a rifle or pistol, but as a "Firearm", and it's perfectly legal without a stamp or anything. HOWEVER, in CA, anything with a barrel under 16" must be transferred as a "pistol", and if you put a VFG on a firearm transferred as a "pistol", it becomes an NFA, and you become a felon. Is this true?

So im building a 10.5" bbl 26" OAL pistol in CA, I cant put a VFG on it, but if Im building it in AZ, I can?

After doing my first cerakote job a couple weeks ago, I can tell you that you have to either do it on a large scale or not value your time much in order to make a living at it. It was a 9 hour job counting the building of my curing oven, degreasing, blasting, filing out pits, blasting more, degreasing, pre-heating, spraying and oven-curing.

Rem 870 before, complete with custom krylon spraypaint rust hider finish, speedfeed stock and breacher barrel:

After with tungsten cerakote, new barrel with rifle sights and hogue short stock:

I do dura coating but like just stated it just takes to much time away from me building and Gunsmithing. It's not worth my time.

My AR would be used mostly for target shooting, just for fun but accuracy is important to me. Most of my shooting will be at 100 yards or less but I do have the opportunity to stretch out to 300 yards. I don't shoot terribly often, minimum once a month but if I'm lucky every weekend and a few times during the week. My guns are cleaned after every trip to the range and would go through a couple hundred rounds each time out.
I just went on your website and checked out your stuff. Nice store, can't buy a complete upper just yet but I'm eyeing some other stuff on there...

Our main customer base are hunters and we have taken our level of accuracy a little overkill for that but hey it's a good selling point lol. My personal rifles that are built exactly like I build every rifle or complete upper I sell print itty bitty groups (that's tech speak lol).

6.8 16" upper running Hornady 120 SST Handloads, target at 200 yards pyny4uvu_e144a05c4fcbde9cf0c2c0ee101c3379f1a7de83.jpg
3 round group measuring just over .500". Bottom left 4th hole was before making an optic adjustment. Geissele SSA-E trigger

.223 Wylde chamber 18" rifle with rifle gas running factory 77gr black hills ammo. Range 200 yards at a class in winter at Thunder Range

Group was able to be covered with a quarter, and was done with a crappy mil spec trigger.

Nice! The AR I'm building now will have a Timney trigger in it and I'm starting with a stripped Aero Precision set. I'll use what I have left from a Rock River Arms LPK for the misc stuff for the lower, get a new grip and add a BAD lever. From there, I'm still way up in the air. I haven't bought any upper parts yet because I'm not sure how I want this to turn out and I only want to buy things once.

I just added some goodies from your shop. :) Build has been stagnant so this will push it a little further to toward completion.
