Local outfitter sells their used Perceptions but best price I've gotten from her is $100 under new cost and they've been beat to shit and hulls plastic welded back together. Not an expert but sounds like a bad deal so I never sprung.

yea thats BS. Should be at least 1/2 price with no major damage.

I paid $350 for my Perception in the last pic I posted w/paddle & life jacket. First Perception I bought was a 9' and cost me $300 brand new w/paddle & jacket about 15 years ago.

I'd never pay more than $400 for a floating trash can :D Perception may not be the best name, but I could care less because they last and are light. We play bumper boats and I leave them out in the sun and drag them over all kinds of crap. At $20 per season cost for my 9' you just can't beat it....and it has many years left in it.

Basically what I told her. $100 off is good for a like new used, they're only $420 +/- new. But she talks for 5 minutes about the employees not taking care of the kayaks and the hulls have split and separated, but she has a plastic welder and gives a one year warranty on the plastic weld. Warranty didn't make it sound any better, I offered her 220 and she blew me off. Think she wanted 300 or 320, no paddles. Wasn't too appealing.

screw that....she's nutz, but if your local market keeps buying them from her at those prices you can't blame her.

I wouldn't buy anything that has been plasti welded.

about a month or two before Christmas my local Craigslist blows up with yaks for sale. Also helps you negotiate pricing down when it's 40* out :D

Definitely been checking for deals. Not a lot of SOTs which I prefer. Or I'll wait until the Tarpon is on sale. Been kayaking since I was a kid but haven't owned one for over 10 years. First SOT paddle was the last time I'll see a sit in.
How many yaks do you have? Seems like you'd bought a few and posted pics but maybe they were for friends.

    Perception 9' Swifty 15 years
    Perception 12' Manatee 4 years
Wilderness 13' (no idea what it's called) 3 years

The wilderness is a friends I have been "storing" for three years so pretty much mine. It's the only one I have that's rated, but it blows for what we do. The cockpit is impossible to get in/out of, but it tracks the best and is the fastest. That said I took it out once and never again will I use it. I let friends borrow it.

I never got into the SOT's. No specific reason. I just guess if it aint broke don't fix it. Ive taken my 9' to the beach and made it out past the breakers a few times. Talk about fun. By the time I got past them I was about to tip over and if it wasn't for having a pump I would have.

Too poor to list anything interesting.
Bought an Old Town kayak and borrowed a friend's ocean kayak for the weekend. The girlfriend and I took them out to Canyon Lake for the weekend. We had a blast.

Any anchor recommendations/things to look for or are they all pretty much the same? Looking for something simple I can throw in the kayak when I go to a lake and feel like chilling in a spot to fish or whatever.

A simple 2-3 lb. mushroom should work fine. Don't get anything than would tend to hang up. I sometimes use some lengths of heavy chain wrapped in duct tape on the river as a drag chain/anchor. Also, I put a zip tie in as a weak link in case I HAVE to break the chain off. If I lose it, NBD.

If you want to go real cheap, get a small detergent bottle and fill it with sand. Also provides the option of tuning the desired weight.

If you're going to use the anchor a lot, I'd suggest rigging an anchor pulley setup so you can easily position your boat relative to the wind direction. They're relatively easy to mod up and useful for that. There are a lot of examples on the internet.

Question for you, Aron...saw your rig a few pages back. Just curious about the rack you use...do you find a significant loss of MPG with the wind resistance from the yak(s)?...I was losing 20% on my PT Cruiser when I had the yaks up on the roof with J-Cradles. Thanks.

Anyone kayak on one of the big rivers? I'm thinking about doing some day trips on the Missouri but I've only kayaked big lakes & little rivers. The MO is a little intimidating with its whirlpools and big debris, as in entire 40' trees sometimes. :D

Anyone ever put a kayak on the roof of an access cab? Just wondering how it will hold up on yakima racks. Would you have to tie off front and back of the boat?

10$ solution. U bolts, wing nuts, and vinyl tubing.

Should work perfect to keep the canoe from falling off the sides when loading/unloading. I just need to make 2 larger ones for the hitch field goal post.

Thanks. I haven't checked MPG in like a year, I choose to ignore it and pretend it's good. :D
I'll be taking a road trip to OBX in a couple weeks with the yaks, I'll try to remember to check my MPG on that trip.

Thanks, looking to get something in the next couple of weeks though.
