Thanks man, most were 30 second shots, some longer. f2.8-5 at 16mm on my 6d at iso 100.

 

That 6d does damn good. I want so bad!

Cool man. I haven't had that kinda luck with lighting and my 30 second captures. You got so e crazy good ones.

 

Slowly getting back up on my feet. Didn't really feel like getting back to shooting, but I need the money. haha.

Use a 30 second exposure and get lucky haha

Or get a light trigger like the neroII

 

Read a few post up, if you can make above the boobies. lol. Struck... Um luck? I have had a to close for comfort ones, but nothing where the hair stood up on my arms or anything.

 

My high school photo teacher told me that she sets a moderately long shutter speed (10 seconds at least?) and she times between the strikes to estimate when she needs to hit the shutter. That gives you a little bit of a better chance than just luck, but you still end up with quite a few without strikes.
I personally haven't been able to practice that method because I haven't really been in any lightning storms since she told me that, but the few that I've been in I can tell it would work if I could stay out to shoot.

That's always fun...had that happen to my family and I in Rocky Mountain NP up at an overlook. My mom's and sister's hairs were actually standing up it was insane! We basically ran back to the car when that happened.

 

I was hiking back from Sky Pond when it started to rain. About the time we reached the first lake, there was a huge and very sharp crack...that's about as close as I've come. We ran most of the rest of the way back to the car.
