Finished the physical build for the 550. Now i have to bind it and tune it, and i'm ready to fly.

I'm trying to get some 10'' carbon props before the first flight, since the dji ones are terrible.

only aftermarket stuff on it right now is the landing gear and GPS mount. landing gear is carbon fiber tube construction with a camera/gimbal mount up front, and battery tray out back. the new gps mount is taller than stock and folds down for transportation.

I just made my 6th order on HobbyKing on the last 2 weeks. I knew this hobby wasn't going to be cheap, but man there are so many parts and piece you'd never dream of or realize you'd ever need.

I'm actually building the same thing as you. I got the hobbyking H550 frame, so the DJI clone. The whole is built and flying, but I keep finding random parts I never thought of before. Like battery adapters for my charger or a lipo fire bag. I also stupidly thought that a single 4000mAh battery would be good enough to get started... lol

nice! how's it fly? i haven't gotten mine off the ground yet. spend a night fine tuning the new landing gear, which meant i didn't program everything, and now i'm gone for the weekend.

what flight times are you seeing with the 4000, 6 minutes? 3s or 4s?

i'm going to be using multiple batteries when i fly, at least until i can get some larger 4s. 2x 5000 mah 2s in series, or 4x 2200 mah 3s in paralelle.

what blades are you using as well. i'm in search of some decent 9-10 inch carbon blades right now that i don't have to order from europe.

It flies pretty well actually. I used the KK2.1 FC, which needs a bit of tuning. So I'm still trying to figure out the adjustments. So much trial and error! I'm hoping to upagrade to something with GPS in the not too distant future. You've got the DJI Naze right? I was looking at that FC, but just a bit too much for my first go at it. I'd be curious to know how well it flies.

I went with a 3S, trying to keep the costs down. I did just order two 5000mAh 3S lipos. So far with the 4000mAh I get about 6-8mins depending on what I do. I'm a bit paranoid about dropping the voltage too low so I stop flying pretty early. All the voltage sensors seem off a bit more than I'd like so I'm extra careful.

As for props, I got the only props I could find in north america, the APC slow fly 10x4.7. I'm not trying to do any crazy acrobatics so they work really well for me.

Yeah, i got the full blown naza. the naza I believe the naza light (like what's in the phantom) has GPS for the purpose of GPS hold, and return to home. the full naza allows you to set gps waypoints for autopilot flight, as well as having altitude hold. i think the light is about half the cost of the full naza, and in the phantom, performed very well.

I'm not building this one for acrobatics either. i'm sure i'll toss the ocasional flip or roll in there for fun, but i'll be using it mostly for filming/pictures. most high performance aspect i'll need from it is a decent top speed for when i'm chasing trucks that aren't snail's pacing it over rocks. that will not be very frequent though. so long story short, i'm looking for a good prop that will give me longer flight times over performance. so a 9 or 10 inch with a 3.8, 4.0, or 4.5 pitch seems to be right were i need to look.

Ahhh, thanks for that. I was a bit confused by the difference between the Lite and Full blown Naza. I'll have to save my pennies up for the full naza. I really wanted to order 3.8 as well so I could compare them, but man are they hard to fly in 10" and at a reasonable price point! I'm way too awful of a pilot to buy a pair of CF props for like $30. Crashes (which happen so often for me) would be way to expensive.

I would say to start really learning to fly with something like this. Super durable and can be a helluva wild ride if to you want it to. But you can't beat it for learning good flying habits and basics for flight setup and tuning

I was considering picking up one of those little Hubsan X4 quads. The one you posted looks way cooler. I'd like to build a micro-quad next.

The hubsan x4 is a great starter to learn to fly with.

This little guy is getting really good reviews as well! I would recommend getting it in "mode 2", which means left hand is throttle. And if you click the little American flag on the order form, it ships from the u.s.warehouse.
    http://m.banggood.com/Cheerson-CX10-CX10-Mini-24G-4CH-6-Axis-LED-RC-Quadcopter-RTF-p-926614.htm
Also, extra props are a must!

The one I had posted is definitely one of the "super cars" of the quad world.
There are a few options if you actually want to build a micro brushed quad.
This guy has some awesome frames,
    http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2136987

These are some great motors for most your micro brushed quads, (they are also good upgrades for the hubsan x4)

    http://micro-motor-warehouse.com/collections/all/products/cl-0720-14

And there are quite a few different flight controllers out there, any thing from plug and play rtf types, to diy, really learn about tuning and tweaking.

There is one in particular that is under development at the moment, it's from a guy on rcgroups.com named alienquads. It is super easy to plug and play, as well as fine tune for dead accurate flight, as well is meant for use with spektrum radios so you can use your nice gear with your micro quad.

I should have paid the premium and had the frames I bought shipped from the US instead of China
