Top hose boils, bottom cool, almost empty feeling. Changed thermostat. Has electric fan that pushes good. Head gasket? Cracked head? Water pump? Oil is clean. No smoke of any kind.

Changed thermostat before or after the issue? Symptoms sound like a thermostat that is stuck closed.

Did you add any "stop leak" to your radiator by anychance?

Sounds like either the water pump has failed and/or you need to burp out any air that may be trapped.

Fan is on from the start. Radiator def not clogged. Maybe let it boil with the cap off?

Burping the system isn't a bad idea. Park with the nose up hill and crank it cold w/the rad cap off and allow it to come to operating temp with it off. when the thermostat opens it should allow the air to come out of the system.
    also...
Try changing the radiator cap. I've seen them wear out and not allow the excess coolant to move to the expansion tank and then the cooling system overpressures and boils.

The hose boils 2 min after starting when totally cold. It starts right where the hose leaves the head. Started running rough too, but it's almost out of gas so that could explain the rough idle. No codes came up either when scanned. I'm gonna have to get gas before I can run it anymore.

It seems like not enough pressure as well

Have you ever put stop leak in your radiator?

The reason I keep asking you this is it will cause your thermostat to get stuck closed.

Sounds like you should try and get your money back, bought someone else's problems. Did you buy private party or from a dealer?

Private. Drove it for 2 days in 100 degree weather. Then yesterday it boiled over. Temp gauge is questionable too. Do really think the seller could see this coming? 2 days in that weather without a prob and then boom, Problem?

He said reason for selling was it's too small with wife and kid, needs a full size. It's a standard cab.

    Previous owner? :notsure:

Check the old thermostat for Cu deposites. It takes a while for all the Cu ions to deposite out of the fluid.

If this is the issue, you dont need a new thermostat. Just pull that on out and break the Cu seal on the Thermostat flap so it can open. Flush the old fluid out.

Thermostats almost never get stuck closed; usually open. Stop leak is notorious for causing them to stick closed.

Interesting. If it opened, then it was good (probably just had a 190 thermostat).

The fact that your upper hose is hot and lower is not means there isnt any flow. Its either a blockage (is the fluid clean?), thermostat stuck closed, or waterpump not working.

-You check the belts? If the pump was busted, you would know (it would be loud). If its just not spinning (belt snapped or rolled off), you would have these symptoms.

-After reading through, it could be an air pocket (previous owner probably did a drain and fill and didnt bleed it properly). Only issue is this problem generally presents itself right off the bat (after the drain/fill) and not randomly two days later... :notsure:
