I'm confused. You said "I'm not saying I'm using the door sticker" then you say the tire says to look at the door sticker "and you did". So how are you not using the door sticker?

Anyway, the 30% rule only tells you not to go below a given pressure because that makes it under inflated. Combine it with the max and you have a safe operating range.

What I'm saying is this: it was suggested I look at the sidewall for inflation info. I did. It said look at the door sticker. I looked at the door sticker and it says to inflate to 30 psi for the stock 245s that come on the truck. So, obviously, I'm not using the door sticker. I also said I looked at the owners manual and it recommends 33-35 psi. for 265s.

    Alternator, potentially a bad ground.

If an alternator supplies just enough power to run the vehicle without the battery, that means it doesn't have anything left to charge the battery. Alternators generally go after 5 years, sometimes after a while longer. But with the Toyota's I've driven, usually after 5 years I have to rebuild mine.

When you disconnect the battery and:

    • turn on all the lights
    • run the stereo on max
    • Fan on Full Blast
    • CB or HAM radio pushing out 50 watts
    • Run a 300 watt Halogen Lamp out of the bed inverter

If your engine dies, alternator/ground issue
If your engine runs smoother, battery

Yeah, 17 years old is pushing it pretty good. Usually bearings are the first thing that go out for me. But I've seen heavier duty models used in trucks have their brushes/comms go out first since they can be contaminated with dust and dirt first.

If you remove your alternator and it spins freely, you could probably just overhaul it with a new set of brushes and some sand paper on the com. Bearings require a vise and some blocks to help you push it out, but it's a doable job at home. If you DIY rebuild, it's like 30-40 bucks.

If you buy a new high amperage alternator, they're around the 600 mark for the absolute best.
