    Do lens filters/protectors still exist?

Try renting some lenses. This will give you an idea of how each performs without the pain and suffering of ownership. BorrowLenses.com is one place. There are others.

Wildlife can be many things. 70-200 is almost too short tho the Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 is a fantastic lens.

If you want to use a teleconverter, get a good lens since the TC can take away a stop or more of light.

I don't use daylight/UV filters. I use the lens hood and cap to protect the lens. Any filter has the potential to add glare or reflection or affect the color of your image. This is also the reason to buy better or best filters. Regardless of their use.

I do use polarizing and neutral density filters and if possible, I do not stack filters. Stacking can introduce reflections, etc.

If you still want to have a filter on all the time, get a good UV filter. B+W, Hoya, Tiffen (in that order) are good options.

    No problem with that one.

Just be careful when you are shooting into bright light. And always keep the carrier in your bag so you can take it off.

    You can buy a 80-200 2.8 for a lot less than a 70-200 2.8.

Here's a pic. Once I get time I'll get a pic with a better background but this one would be awesome to see as well.

Attempted a Milky Way shot for the first time. But it was a little cloudy and I just don't know how to get it to "POP"

Full frame camera is very useful.

But higher elevation, no light pollution, and shooting at 1-3am is a big help

some of this, a little of that
Last week I bought my first camera that was not just a point and shoot, I picked up a Nikon D3200, what would be a good fairly low cost software option for editing?

So far I love the camera, I can't wait to actually figure it out.

Well I shoot Canon, but that 11-16 is sharper then some of my L glass that was twice the price. The 150-600 is awesome, but to tell you the truth, its a heavy bitch and I find myself not using it as much as I could. ( I had a tamron 70-300 VC which was sharp and awesome and light) But when I use the 600 I am impressed, exp for the $1000 price tag for 600mm!
