Hey everyone. Today I installed the TRD exhaust on my taco. It went on super smooth, even the hangers slid off like butter. The truck had less than 160 miles at installation. I've driven close to 20 since installing the exhaust and it sounds great, but it almost seems to be getting louder. I didn't replace the exhaust gasket because I figured it's brand new. Am I starting to hear a leak? At speed on the highway with the windows up I barely notice it over talk radio, but low speed with lots of starts and stops it's quite a noticeable exhaust note.
Trying to figure it out on my own is annoying because I can only let it idle and try to listen around the y-pipe connection. Should I have just replaced the exhaust gasket even though it's only a week old?

Or am I just so used to having a creaky Corolla that I forgot how good a nice exhaust can sound.

Anyway I can confirm the exhaust adds 100+ horsepower. Threw in an aFe Pro Dry S filter as well.

its never a good idea to re use exhaust gaskets.

Use a liberal amount of Copper RTV to ensure no leaks.

See I didn't have a gasket on mine like either of those. It was conical and didn't have holes for the bolt to pass through. Just sat on the flange.

Honestly, the OEM one is the best, and you get it at your local dealer.

Update: did a little test with the wife and it seems the exhaust is just a little louder than I expected, no leaks. We'll see how things change as it breaks in.

Like chris4X4 said OEM is best. It may be a little more expensive but its definitely worth the extra penny.

New exhaust's will get louder over time as the packing in the mufflers break-in/wear out.

I did the same mod on my 14 DCSB. I just used the gasket from the original exhaust which had about 3k miles on it. No leaks and works just fine. It did seem loud at first, but it will tone out nicely.

I know of a 2010 that the dealer re-used the gasket when they put on the TRD exhaust and it ended up failing. They must've bent something somewhere because that truck has had three of that same gasket fail in 29k miles. I replaced the last one and so far no issues for almost 2k miles

Next time i replace it for him, i'll be trying some copper RTV sealant

When i buy them, i buy them from Camelback Toyota Parts
They have had the best price for that OEM donut gasket

I'll be doing this mod next week with '14 DCSB, which will have less than 500 miles on it. I'll make sure to put a new gasket on it...just in case.

Dish soap works really well to slide those rubber mounts on and off. Really well…..

I'll try that when my exhaust gets here. Thanks for the tip!

Installing AFE Mach Force XP stainless 2.5" :D (hopefully when it gets here, if it gets here!)

Doing mine with less that 200 miles on it, I had the most trouble with the tailpipe hangers. Even then it only took a couple of seconds to wriggle it free. Doing the exhaust while the truck is new makes it a lot easier and cleaner.
