On the end of the shaft itself there IS a c-clip that holds the inner tripod joint onto the shaft. Measure the outside diameter of the groove and go to napa. They will have a c-clip that fits. If you are in a pinch you can also use lacing wire, but that is better left to professional hillbillies.

You can droop out 4wd lt and nothing falls apart if they are assembled correctly.

30 spline axles? You get a junk yard LC third and build it up or order one somewhere?

I want to do the 9.5" when my 8" dies. Curious on what spline you can do with the available lockers. Most lockers don't specify spline count so I figure is all 30 spline. Have to look round a little more.

I believe all of the Toyota 9.5" stuff is 30 spline. The only "gotchya" with them is that the semi float and full float lockers are different. All of the 9.5's in Australia are full float as C-clip axles are against the law there. I had Brian at Diamond build mine, but I hear Zuk is the man on them and if I had the time would have ordered one from him (gearinstalls.com). I'm running a detroit in mine, but in a "nice" build like yours I would not advise it as it's a noisy focker. I was tempted to go with a 10.5" third out of the new tundy, but the aftermarket support just isn't there. The 9.5" has been around since 1969 and is still in production today. You can find parts in BFE. Maybe not as easy as 8" stuff, but almost. The craziest part is with the fabricated housing I actually have MORE ground clearance under the pumpkin than with the stock 8". Go figure.

Don't laugh. My truck wouldn't run if it wasn't for lacing wire and tactical tape. You can tell I'm a professional hillbilly because I don't use bailing wire and duct tape.

Ill try, Im going to check the uniballs and general condition of the truck as well as the welds on the cantilever set up and what not. The truck looks pretty clean and well taken care of, if it all works out hopefully Ill be able to meet up with some of you guys on the next trip out.

would this happen to be the one in san diego?
x2 jack it up and check for play. get the whole front end off the ground and check for tie rod wear, upper and lower uniball wear, check the bushings/heims on the upper and lower arms, check the shock shafts for pitting and for any oil leak by, check the steering rack for play, make sure the wheel bearings sound/feel alright.
for the rear make sure it is first a decently designed canti system, check all heims and uniballs for play, check leafs for cracks/splits/wear, inspect shock shafts and look for oil, look for any signs of anything rubbing or not cycling correctly.
also check the carrier bearing, the driveshaft u joints, etc anything you would normally look at on a for sale vehicle.

Not the one in San Diego, but im also planning on checking that one out! Thats a solid list of stuff to check out with somethings I probably wouldve forgotten in there.

Seems like its common to run cantilever on the tundras, hopefully if it all works out I'll get the truck and save up for sua with a bedsaver cage in the next year.

I would also check to see when the timing belt was done, or if it needs to be done.

I called Tom Woods today to order one of his fancy double cardan one piece shafts, and I need to know how much Drive shaft plunge we get. I tried to use a plumb bob off of my bump cans at full droop and measure forward axle movement, and got about 4". They said they can't build a high speed 3.5" shaft with more than 3" of plunge. I'm running the All-Pro Baja leaves SUA strapped at around 17" of travel, similar to deaver H-70's. What kind of driveshafts are you guys running and where did you get it?

The 3.4 and 4.7 both have timing belts.
