Is the access cab really that unappealing? Is the DC worth the "nothing fits back here" bed?

Looking to purchase a 2014, and had been looking at the access cabs for the longer, more utilitarian, bed length; maybe ya'll know something I don't?

Get a DCLB if you want a DC with the same size bed as the AC

If I didn't have kids, would have got the AC for sure. I need the box space more than the cab space, but I hate how long the DCLB version is.

I have a DCSB I got it because I wanted the interior space for carrying passengers and my stuff. Plus I have access to an HD diesel truck when I really need to haul stuff. I mean if you want an AC then buy one.

mini antenna... I'm getting to it! Sheesh!
I've had 6 Toyota trucks since '78. And I love my DCLB more than any of them. It's the right amount of space and size. I just wish it had leather seats. ;)

I loved my '09 AC, but I really needed more room in the cab and I don't haul a lot.

For what it's worth, I have an AC and wish I had a DCSB. DCLB is a no-go for me as it doesn't come in TRD OR and it is huge (hard to park and hard to properly wheel in). I also have and enjoy the manual, which the DCLB also doesn't get.

That said, if I had to do it all over I'd probably go with a DCSB Auto simply because it's easier to wheel in an Auto and the extra couple of MPG's on the highway would be nice.

I don't use the bed that often, but I frequently find myself telling people "I do have back "seats" but they aren't the greatest, sorry" and always end up driving my parent's Ram 1500 when there is more than me + 1 other. Granted, many times it's just me and my girlfriend so it's not all bad, and one thing is that if I get a camper shell, the longer bed will definitely be more useful/comfortable.

However, it's up to you to decide. If there is only you + 1 other, then an AC should be fine and it's a versatile balance if you need the bed space. But if bed space isn't too important I say DCSB for sure.

What doesn't fit? The Access Cab bed is a whopping foot longer.need that extra foot drop the tailgate, problem solved. Think of it this way your trading outside space/access cab long bed,for inside space double cab short bed. also on long trips you'll have the advantage of hitting a rest area and reclining back fully and take a nap in your truck.you'll never be able to relax like that in an Access Cab. Not to mention the rear seats are rather useless anyway so if you're going to go that route you might as well just get the base single cab and save yourself some money. That's my $0.02 hope it helps.

You might say "whopping foot" but I say 20%...which is not insignificant. Additionally unless you are 5' tall then the 6' bed will be much more comfortable to sleep in if you throw a camper shell on there...

All true if your going the shell route. I,however did not.I prefer back seats and also the ability to sleep in a sealed climate controlled cab should I need to.but another consideration nobodys mentioned is dbl cab option ads about 4g's to the sticker price.so in the end I guess it kind of hinges on what you plan to use it for.

I'm going to have to disagree with you here. The extra foot makes a pretty big difference imho. Neither bed is particularly long. And a long bed can drop the tailgate and use a bed extender just the same as a short bed.

I'm not sure if you've ever actually been in an access cab, but there is plenty of room to recline the seats if you need to take a rest on the side of the road or at a rest stop, so that argument doesn't hold much water either. You are however right in the rear seats in the access cab being useless (for hauling people), however I would venture to guess most people don't buy an AC for extra seating. They buy it for the extra cab space, which is secure and dry, is invaluable for carrying certain types of cargo. Not only that, but the regular cab doesnt have the option of the V6, so no - there are plenty of reasons to choose an access cab over a regular cab or a double cab.

The price difference not anywhere near 4,000... I just built up a truck identical to my AC, but in a DC configuration and it came out to 1340 difference on the MSRP, and the actual difference in cost at invoice is less than 500 dollars (482 dollars to be exact). I see plenty of access cabs on the road, and the people buying them aren't buying them because they couldn't afford a double cab. They bought the truck that fits their needs.

I haul 3 kids weekly, a yard of mulch/top soil yearly and a dirt bike occasionally. So far, no issues with the DCSB.

On the rare occasion I need to haul something bigger, uhaul is right down the road. A trailer costs $23. I've used that option 2 times in the last 4 years.

    Different people have different requirements.

Here's the reason I prefer a 4-door to the access cab.

Everything is relative, my friend. Compared to my last rig, a 4-Runner, my current 4DSB 4x4 will provide plenty of storage space once my cap arrives. More importantly, I like having the option of letting my lab ride up front with me on overly hot or bitter cold days. With the rear seats folded down the 4-door affords plenty of room for a dog to get comfortable- and I still have more storage space in the bed than I will ever need.

500 price difference between ac and DC? Really?that sure isn't what I remember at the dealer.maybe I'm wrong about that one.but that doesn't even sound right.500 diff seems mighty cheap, but whatever.if I'm that far off I'll take the hit.but its interesting to note that you believe EVERYONE you see in an ac is driving it because that what they wanted not because it was a few thou less, cause when I looked in 12 at new ones there was a significant price difference.

It really depends what you're going to use the truck for. You have to decide that. I got the DCSB so I had the capability of carrying more than 2 people. 90% of the time it's just me or the wife and I. But I used the truck for a couple of long trips with four people total. The two people in the back said they had plenty of room and all of our gear fit in the bed with a tonneau cover. The short bed also fits better in my garage. The long bed truck would have fit, but it would have been really tight. With the short bed, I have a little "oops" room. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I had a 2011 AC off road and sold it and bought a 2013 DCLB sport. They both cost about the same. Maybe 500-600 difference.

I wasn't impressed with the dc. Could have either. Love my AC. Don't know what you mean by unappealing, I think they are very appealing.
