tacoma! i rolled my 4-runner the first week i had it and i was not doing anything special. it was raining, i hit some gravel in the road, it started sliding, i turned into the skid like you should, but when it came back around the weight in the back made the rear over correct, i tried to react...

next thing i know i am in a ditch laying on the roof.

oh, at 35-40mph! i loved it while i had it though, very NICE vehicle!

I drove a new 4runner earlier this year. Handled like shit. Major body roll.

    Clearly

Couldn't have been because you were driving too fast for conditions, it was the 4Runners fault. Odd that my wife hasn't rolled hers yet. Didn't roll it driving through a major ice storm in Alpine pass this past Thanksgiving when I was driving either. Just lucky I guess.

well you were on ice, i was on an asphalt road, the gravel made it slide (i guess fell off a truck) so when it came back around the tires hit asphalt and got grip again.. then a over she a went. i have been in way stickier situations with the tacoma, never had anything close to that happen, especially after stiffening up the suspension. it may have been one of those 'perfect storm' chain of events type situations that hardly ever happen, but it did. just wanted to share my experience.

    I know, right?

It's been a long time since I took driver's Ed but I can still clearly remember the instructor saying "you can always drive 35-40mph regardless of road/weather conditions. Any problems you have at 35-40mph are because something is wrong with the vehicle."

I can't believe they still sell 4Runners in this country.

I meant the earliest 4Runners were pickups with a pass-thru shell:

I had the pleasure of owning a 2012 4-runner Trail Edition which I purchased new. It was, in fact, a bad ass, go anywhere, beast of a rig. So..."Why did you sell it for a Tacoma"?

Here's the honest answer. Like many guys who visit this forum, I consider myself to be just an average, hard-working American. As such, I had no illusions about taking my $40,000 4R TE "off-roading". And by off-roading, I mean, serious off-reading/over-landing the variety of which commonly results in dents, scratches and various mechanical maladies.

Frankly, as an avid sportsman (duck hunter/bird hunter/traditional bowhunter) I did find the 4-runner to be quite limiting when it came time for hauling a mud-covered, wet hunting dog and the bloody birds that he was so fond of retrieving. And getting a deer or bear home was even more of a challenge. Don't get me wrong, there's a solution for every dilemma and I made do with the 4-runner. But there's also a lot to be said for using "the right tool for the job".

Having owned both a 4-runner and a Tacoma (currently), as well as various other trucks over the years, for me, personally, the Tacoma is the more versatile, practical choice.
