Agreed...I lived with a regular cab chevy for 11 years with no problems. No kids, and have no need for more than 2 seats. Love the space, the access doors, and I can even reach back and open the sliding window when I feel like it. I also prefer the longer bed, and hate the long wheelbase on the DCLB's. Get what works for you...:)

5ft bed vs 6ft makes a huge difference for some. For one with the 6ft bed the rear wheel on my dirt bike sits in the bed and not on the tailgate. Second when carrying lumber with a 5ft bed the longest is 10ft and with the 6ft bed you can carry 12ft lumber. I can squeeze my family into the access cab for the few times we go camping or all ride in the truck. The 5ft bed is a joke to me and anyone who actually uses the truck as a truck.

i can fit my sport ATV in the back of my LB with the tailgate up, and my stand up jetski with the tailgate down. Been wanting a DCSB for years for wheeling but i doubt the ski would fit very well in a SB. too many hobbies. For camping i have a tent trailer, atv and jet ski. it all sorta fits!

I like the access cabs a little more than double cabs but I ended up with a double cab short bed because it met more important requirements for price, low miles and stick shift. They're both extremely versatile. I never ran out of space in 15 years of driving a Ranger regular cab stepside, so even the Tacoma 5 ft. bed works fine for me. I'd scale down on material possessions before I'd scale up a truck size. I dislike the full-size trucks and the dick-swinging contest people automatically enter when they drive one.

Labs4me - Where did you get that dog bed? Looks like it fits perfectly. I have been looking for something like this for my little girl!

    MY scenario:

60% of the time its just me and my gf in the truck. I dont haul much other than camping gear and the mtn bikes (usually im the shuttle service). I dont have kids but i plan on keeping my truck for a long time. That being said i chose the double cab. I have plenty of room for guests and i love having that extra seating in the back. I love my dbl cab and wouldnt ever switch it for an access.

You don't have to take my word for it, you can look up the sticker price using the build configuration tool on the Toyota website, or get the invoice off of sites like KBB and others. I would guess that the double cabs you were looking at had more options than the access cabs you were shown.

    Negative!

DCSB. Passengers and fits 90% of what I haul. Long Bed would be nice but I wanted the 6spd. Have no idea why that isn't available on the LB.

For short trips, the ac rear seats are just fine. Unless the person is over 6' tall, old, or fat, they should be able to get in and ride in the back of an ac. We do it all time. We just make sure to put the tall, old, and fat people in the front. There are definitely reasons to have a dc truck but the occasional 3rd or fourth passenger that is relatively fit and of average height is not a problem at all. Plus, if they want to whine about the comfort of their free trip, they can drive themselves. Haha!

Bob - good taste, I am looking for something similar, but in the SR config. Would not complain if I could get a TRD for the right price.

    +1

My back seats are folded down for my dog 90% of the time. That bed looks great!

We have DCSB. Would have gotten a long bed but I needed to buy in a hurry, and I couldn't find one at my price point at that time.
We do eldercare, have pets, etc. I like the extra room.
My mother-in-law loves riding in it.

Guess I'm the odd one out.

DCLB and I never ever want kids. I just like having as much room as I can get.

just went from a 2010 access cab to a 2014 dcsb. I use the bed a lot for plumbing supplies. The better look and more cab room far outweigh the shorter bed for me. Getting a DCLB just doesn't make sense to me. My opinion is the tacoma looks ridiculous in that form factor and parking and manuerving in a lot becomes a pain. I'd just get a full-size truck instead.

I had to adjust the way I tie 10' pipe off in the bed, but it's not really that big of a difference as some here are making out. i could never go back to an access cab now. the butterfly doors and back seats are painful over time. No one wanted to sit in the back either.

    CO Ryan.

I actually had the bed mat custom made to fit on the platform created when the rear seats are folded down. To add weight (so it wouldn't blow around with the windows down) and rigidity to the pad I used a 3/4" thick horse stall rubber mat that I cut to size. And then I went to a foam cushion shop and bought a piece of 1" thick semi-firm cushion that I also cut to size. Then I took the rubber and the cushion to a boat canvas shop and had them make me a removable/washable cushion cover with a heavy duty YKK brass zipper for easy removal. Total cost: $125.

My lab is able to get quite comfortable in the back seat area. So to me it was a worthwhile upgrade.
