We had one last year that kept swimming across the Delaware River and scaring the city folk. Ive never seen one in person, but plenty of fresh tracks.

We have a couple bears a year walk through our yard, usually we only see them because we're sitting on the deck. They usually see us and take off running away

Holy shit, didn't even think of it that way. Could very easily be misconstrued.
Apologies if I inadvertently offended anyone. Edited OP.

For a guy who hates drama you sure like to cause it and surround yourself with it.

"The attack occurred shortly after 5 a.m. in Stokes State Forest in Sussex County. Police said a black bear entered the Glen Anderson area being used by the Montague-based youth camp, Trail Blazers, while the campers were asleep.
“This has never occurred in 25 years of camp,” the camp’s executive director, Riel Peerbooms, told CBS 2’s Sean Hennessey. “The outdoors comes with challengers, but we certainly wouldnt put anyone at any risk. That would be unreasonable, so bear encounters can probably not be prevented.”
Two counselors gathered the group of nine children in a partially enclosed cabin and made noise to scare the bear away.
The bear left the site of the attack and then returned. It was rummaging through the campsite when state fish and game officials arrived.
A state wildlife technician was able to shoot the bear in the neck before the animal fled into the woods. It is now being hunted by a Department of Environmental Protection response team. The orders are to shoot to kill."

Guess I dreamed it up.....

Please stop trying to put words in everyone's mouths... I never said this attack was fatal.

"Troopers said one of the boys suffered a puncture wound after the bear grabbed him by the foot and tried to pull him out of a tent. The bear then swiped at another tent, scratching a second boy on the shoulder.
Both children were taken to a local hospital for treatment. The attack reportedly lasted about 15 minutes."

You said people get mauled and killled every year and that two kids " got taken out last year "

So that would explain why they aren't on the fatal attack list , not because it was on Wikipedia

Oh sorry it was 3 years ago...sorry my memory is a little off on each bear occurrence

    get a life

"There is a very real and extremely dangerous black bear overpopulation problem occurring in New Jersey, and the State has neither timely nor appropriately addressed it to date. In the absence of immediate bear population reduction measures, fatal or near-fatal bear attacks are inevitable. There is also a state liability concern in addition to the public safety aspect of the issue, as state liability in bear attacks is a new area of litigation that could subject New Jersey to significant liability if the State fails to effectively or timely address the problem.

Contrary to popular belief, black bear are not always benevolent. They can exhibit predatory behavior, and they have been attacking humans and domesticated animals in North America with increasing and alarming frequency. There is a documented and growing trend of aggressive, unprovoked and predatory behavior by black bear toward humans. According to one well known and respected bear authority in the United States, Stephen Herrero, two-thirds of all fatal black bear attacks occurring during the last 100 years occurred within approximately the past 30 years (see article, “Fatal Injuries Inflicted to People by Black Bear”, proceedings of the Fifth Western Black Bear Workshop, p. 75). This trend is the result of increasing human encroachment into and development of bear habitat, in combination with increasingly mild winters which no longer check population growth. As a result, there has been a dramatic increase in the frequency of contact between humans and bear."

You have a greater chance of dying from a bee sting , dog attack or lightning
