Thanks man, it's slowly getting better.

Mocking up for rear shocks today. 4 inches of shaft showing at ride height. Fully flexed out equates to roughly 20" at the wheels. Looks like I'm gonna have to weld in some more tubing so the bump stops can reach the axle haha :anonymous:

And before anyone says anything- yes I know, "no more cutting!" ([IMG])

...but I'm starting to wonder if I should cut off the axle end shock mounts and put the shock on the opposite (inside) side of the tubing/bed area/whatever. Moar flex? :notsure:

Why only 4"? You're definitely going to want about half the shock shaft worth of uptravel to race. Seems like the sky is the limit for where the upper mount can go?

Yeah, I intentionally made the bed area somewhat of a blank slate to maximize my shock mounting options.

Talking with Ben @ Filthy Motorsports, he suggested 4" of shaft showing at ride height. So that's what the front shocks are valved for. I mocked up the rears assuming they would also be set to 4" at ride height, but they could be tucked another 2" if I want. I was just about to update the build on pirate and ask about that.

4" of chrome showing on the front of a trail rig (not race truck) would be fine but never 4" on the rear. What length shocks do you have out back? 16s? I would try to double that and shoot for 8" of up, 6" minimum.

I had a feeling that was the case. I'm going with 14"s in the rear too, so the max I could get is 6" up, 8" down.

You could move them slightly more inboard. I'd only move them in on the inside of the tube frame just. Too far in and they will loose their dampening.

But I think where they are at is good for crawling and also go fast.

Would be checking if they clear the tires though with coils on...

    Only 14s out back?!

    Wtf

You will want the rear to out perform the front in go fast situations..like racing through the whoops in the fast section.

I'd want 16s or 18s and more up travel too.

But really boils down to ultimate use of the truck

14"s all around for mod class.

I don't think you want it to necessarily out perform the front, but even things out as much as possible. Hence the reason I've been trying to move a lot of the weight towards the rear. Most of the videos I see where the truck goes ass-over-teakettle is likely because there's either too much weight in the front, shocks unload too fast in the rear, or probably a combination of both.

Or split it in half, 7 and 7. A lot of competitive KOH rigs have half chrome showing at ride height. Having uptravel is nice and I only have 5.5" of chrome showing up front.

Yeah, I'll try to stuff the axle as far up as possible. I just cut 4" off the lower links, so I'm gonna move the upper mounts anyway. Truck now looks like it belongs at ~120".

I'm just going off my lt knowledge from all the reading I have done. So..not gonna say I know wtf I'm talking about :p

But I know in general that is a rule of thumb for the lt guys. A planted ass end is always better.

I would go for more up travel either way. Even if it's just 5-6" chrome

I can say if you have 4" of uptravel front and rear, you won't get to a speed fast enough to notice which end out performs the other LOL

Any thoughts on moving the shocks to the inside of the frame/toobing?

This is one of the things I didn't add to the equation earlier on. At full flex, the caliper bracket comes too close to the spring retainer plate.

Where it's sitting now. With the 4" up travel :)anon:) and with the wheelbase set to approximately 120".

    [IMG]DSC09830 by wyo_taco45, on Flickr

Basically I'm thinking of moving it quite literally on the opposite side of the tubing
