Anything done to the rear yet?

 

Not yet...still trying to save up the cash...soon.

Today I put on some 14 inch 700lb King springs to get rid of the massive amount of preload on the 13 inch 650lb springs that came on the icons, I needed the preload to keep my truck level with all the weight of the bumper winch and skid plate...and possibly my fat ass in the truck

Big thanks to 06Haole for the smokin deal on these used but almost brand new springs!

Coilovers off and headed to the Goodyear about 1/4 mile from me who swapped them out for $50 bucks...not bad considering even with their wall mount spring compressor it still looked scary with all the spring pressure loaded up.



New springs on old ones to the spare parts bin.



All done and almost 0 preload. After this pic I put 2 full turns on the drivers side to compensate for the taco lean but it's showing maybe 2 threads now



For comaparison. This is how much preload I had on the passenger side the drivers side had even more than this.

 

Very nice. How's the ride?

 

On the street it feels the same. Things that have changed are less body roll in turns and the nose doesn't dive as far when on the brakes hard. Before the body roll didn't bother me but sometimes under hard braking it felt like the suspension was gonna bottom out.
Gotta find some dirt now!

Damn man I wanna do a 2" over LT Kit until I see all the goodies you have in there and my mind explodes....I think this is still the route I should take sweet setup once again!

 

I'm extremely happy with it but if I hadn't got such a smokin deal on the LCAs (600 bucks) I'd probably would have gone with the 2 inch over kit. It's about the same price in the long run. But as she sits right now it performs awesome offroad.

 

Maybe we should go test this stuff out friday night.

 

Got a a Pelfreybilt Midskid for Xmas from the wife. Put it on today.

to bad this thing did not have 4x4 you could roll with us to coral canyon this weekend.

 

Even if it did have 4x4 I'm in no shape right now for any kind of offroading. Few more months of Chemo and i'll be looking to do a Mojave Trail run to Laughlin for a "I'm free of Cancer drunkfest!!!"

PS: To anyone that doesn't know I was diagnosed with Leukemia back in October. I've been thru 2 rounds of Chemo and according to the Doctors I am in remission. Last they told me I have about 3 or 4 more rounds of Chemo and if the cancer is still gone then i'm done and it's back to a normal life. Currently i'm doing well and spend about 2 weeks out of the month in the Hospital getting my treatments and recovering from the Chemo. It really has not been that bad for me personally as the rest of me is extremely healthy and it seems to really help me get thru the treatments with minimal side effects. Thanks to all my TW SoCal friends who have kept me in their thoughts and prayers....you all know who you are!

 

Sub'd your truck looks awesome Tom! Let me know or just post it on the 626/909er thread when that trail run is going down. I want to celebrate and make that run with yea! FU** Cancer!

 

I have a question about your suspension..
by having stock length lower control arms, does that affect the travel of your wheel.... and then by having it stock length, it doesn't make the wheels stick out past the fender like you see with some LT set ups.... correct?

Travel is the same with these lowers. Only way to get more travel over stock is to go with the extended shocks and a new UCA. And that only gets you maybe an inch or so of droop over a bone stock Tacoma. The wheels stay in the same position they do not move out at all. What you do get from these LCA's is an absolute bulletproof LCA as compared to stock. My stock ones had hairline cracks in the welds after 15k miles. I personally dont want to be stuck in the desert with broken LCA's so the upgrade was worth it in my opinion. The option of being able to run a secondary shock is well worth it too...the bypass shocks made a huge difference out in the desert also. If you have any desire to go LT, I would pass on spending money on these. But in my case i'm very happy with my front setup the way it is and think that once I go LT rear i'll be even happier and done spending money on suspension.

I just got back from an appointment and I'll be going back in for round 3 of Chemo on January 5th. Weird thing is i'm looking forward to it. I just want to get this over with so I can get back into the desert. I feel like i'm missing out on so much this year.
