I saved until I had 6K to put down, and financed the rest through my credit union. My payments are 220 a month, but I plan to put another big chunk down in a few months and bring them down even more. I hate to owe, so I hope to have this truck paid off by next Christmas.

How many of you paid full cash for your truck new? (No parents or grandparent help) I mean- who paid $30,000+ Cash? Did you save for ever or are you just stacked like that? Coulda bought a new Icon or something and just thought taco was right for you?

Not being sarcastic- $30K is a lil bit a change ya know...

I cut them a check for $28,000. Saving for several years does wonders. I'd rather save if possible and pay cash then take a loan and end up paying 4 grand more in interest. And what are you talking about buying something else but the Taco was just right? You could say that to everyone else who financed it since they're paying more money in the long run. Not sure what point you're trying to make.

    Well pretty much...

    1. Save $1,000 to start an emergency fund.

    2. Take every debt you have except your mortgage (which I was lucky enough to not have) starting with the lowest balance. Make minimum payments on everything else that's above your lowest-balance debt, take the rest of the money and attack the lowest BALANCE, not lowest interest rate. This will give you momentum and hope along your path. After the lowest is paid off, move to the next one, so on and so forth, creating a "debt snowball". This is how I ended up with paying $3,000/mo. onto our cars. No more credit cards = more money to put on other debts (cars) = living the exact same lifestyle I was originally living the whole time, just outta debt 5-10x's faster

This is the step I'm on. Bought two brand new cars within a year of each other - DOH! Don't get me wrong though, I LOVE my taco!

    3. Save 3 to 6 months of expenses in a fully-funded emergency fund.

    4. After that, Invest 15% into Roth IRA's for you and your spouse, currently the Gov't is only allowing $5,000/yr. per person.

    5. Start saving to fund your children/future children's education.

    6. Pay off mortgage if you have one, EARLY! :)

    7. Build wealth/give. Could you imagine leaving a $400 tip to your Waffle House waitress because it's obvious she needs the help? One of Dave's employees does this every month with the bonus/profit-sharing check she gets. I've never done it, but boy does that sound like a load of fun for the day. You can spend $100,000 on a toy (boat maybe?) and not get that much joy out of it! He also recommends further investing in real estate.

Why is that bad? The borrower is TRULY slave to the lender. I don't know about you, but I'd rather be able to give like no one else than worry about actually HAVING a credit score. If you don't finance a thing and your 100% debt free, mortgage and all, within two years you don't even have a credit score anymore. And the best part is, you won't need it. ;)

EDIT: And who really wants to be a slave? I don't. I don't want to owe anyone. I'm sure a couple of guys on this thread would agree, and I'm talking about the real smart ones who paid cash and are answering the original thread question with "$0 a month :) "
