Drive to my house north of Spokane and I can help you. I have tools, knowledge, and even experience with suspension. We could plan a weekend, you drive out Friday afternoon/evening, work it on Saturday, drive home Sunday.

Jack up truck on one rear corner, put jack stand in place, remove wheel, put jack or another jack stand under axle, remove 2 rear bolts for shackle to mount and shackle to leaf, put bolt in mount to new shackle, fight getting leaf in place and put in second bolt, tighten everything up to spec, put wheel back on, jack up, remove jack stands, lower truck, and repeat on other side. Only cost here is time and new shackles. I have heard of people doing FJ shackles to replace Tacoma shackles, because they are bigger and I think I read greaseable. At this point, start to consider shackle flip kit (ATO has one for $200). From what I have read, removing the factory mounts is a bitch if you don't remove the bed, but can be done. That will give you a little height gain as well as more droop, so you can keep a wheel on the ground instead of hanging in the air over a deeper hole.

Block still takes jacking truck, remove wheel, support axle (use a jack this time), unbolt the U Bolts, lower axle, add block, raise axle, put nuts on U bolts (should be new u bolts that are longer), tighten up, reinstall wheel, lift truck, remove jack stands, lower truck.

I would say block are probably easier to install, but shackles will be better for the long run as well as likely cheaper.

I don't need new u bolts if im just doing a 1 inch block, the bolts that came with the aal stick down about an inch and a half, not past the shock bracket but should be long enough. Seems like its easier to do the block, and since its only an inch it won't do that much harm over the lift of the truck. If i was doing a 2 or 3 inch block then I could understand

Is there something out there to maybe just cover the sides that we could do ourselves? like kinda stickers or something? like the lower half of the side of the body?

I took my taco out last weekend for the first time and it doesn't look like its a 2014 anymore...i scratches the paint pretty bad.

Man Izzy. Can I say again, 'welcome to the club'! Way to get out there and use your truck and have fun! BenWA once posted something about these magnetic covers you could get but he gave up on that idea. I'll see if we can find a link...

    TRAIL HONOR STRIPES!

It is sort of like military, the more stripes, the higher the rank. Will (penguin_cc) decided to cover or fill his honor with bondo and new paint, so he is back to private while my truck is more like sergeant or colonel.

So looks like I'm doing the long haul this week. Driving to BAMF to pick up a bed rack, driving to Bend going north to pick up an RTT, driving to Portland next to meet up with family and finally to Astoria for a camping trip. All in the span of 2 1/2 days.

My truck is vinyl wrapped. Have had the wrap for more than a year and it is holding up very well. See my build page for pics. Plastidip is an option too. It is much cheaper but is not as durable. For example just hitting the same spot with your heel every time you get into the truck will eventually cause it to peel and once plastidip starts peeling it's the beginning of the end.

That being said, I ran out of vinyl for my rear bumper and plastidipped it and it has held up very well too.
