Wheel Backspacing and Offset Info

04 single cab 4x4
(3-4" skyjacker lift, stock uca)
17x8.5 mb tko's with -6 offset.
285/70/17's

I JUST ORDERED THESE TODAY, thought I read all there was to read on sizing (basically 4.5" backspace and you r safe), then found a thread that said this setup won't work because I need 4.25" or even 4" back spacing.
If anyone knows for sure please chime in so I can cancel order before delivery.

My question is I found a set of these wheels for a decent price and I want that look with the tire sticking out a lil bit without using spacers. Can I use a 285 with the 10" wheel??? I see guys running the 20x12 version with the -44mm offset and they dont seem to have any problems.

I am lifting NY tacoma with the Maxtrac, 4" kit.. I want to run 285/75/16 BFg ta ko, but I am not sure which wheel to get, like what kind of backspacing, offset do you guys recommend. Wheels that will not rub anything.. Please help to

 

Im trying to decide on wheels for my 2013 Tacoma TRD Off-road. Im going with a 4" lift running on 285/70/17s tires.
My question what size wheels should I get?
I know that I am getting a 17" diameter wheel what width should I get 8.5" or 9".
I know what the offset and backspacing are but i do not know how to figure out which wheel size i should get according to the width of the wheel.

SOOOOOO which ones

17x8.5 with 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern with 0 offset

OR

17x9 with 6 on 5.5 Bolt Pattern with -12 offset and 4.5 backspacing

 

8.5" wide wheel is ideal for a 285/70r17, and with the 0 offset, the wheels will only stick out maybe 1/2". A 9" wide with a -12 offset will stick out 1/2~3/4" more than that.

Well, I read the first 20 pages of this before posting but it seems that a lot is dependent on the actual wheels and tires chosen so I'm going to ask and pray for someone nice to respond.

I'm doing a favor for my brother in law to help him figure out what he can put on his stock '12 Prerunner. I have a Tundra so I have never researched Tacoma stuff before today but he doesn't understand and asked me for help.

He wants the biggest tires he can put on stock. I'm recommending 265/70/17 or 265/65/18. I told him the Toyo Open Country AT/2s were good. From my research, I would probably go with those. I have Cooper AT3s on my truck because I got a better price though.

Next come wheels. He loves my Fuel Hostages and lives far enough away that I don't care if he copies me.

The Hostage comes in 17x8.5, 17x9 and 18x9. The AT/2 is good up to 9" or 9.5" width depending on which he chooses. Now comes the question that I can't figure out. How much backspace does he need? Ideally, he wants no rubbing.

Here are my options:
265/70/17 are rated up to 9", 265/65/17 are rated up to 9.5"
17x8.5 with 5.25 BS (+14 offset) or 5.75 BS (+25 offset)
17x9 with 4.5 BS (-12 offset) or 5 BS (+1 offset)

265/65/18 are rated up to 9.5"
18x9 with 4.5 BS (-12 offset), 5 BS (+1 offset) or 5.75 BS (+20 offset)

The ideal goal is no rubbing on 2012 stock height Prerunner without the tires sticking out very far past the fender. I do have a heat gun and will be happy to massage his fender liners if necessary. I had to do that on my Tundra. I don't want to trim body mounts or and other metal though.

EDIT: I found time to do some more research and I think going with any of these combinations that have a 4.5" BS should be okay. I will leave it up to him if he wants the 17 or 18. I'd go 17 because I like more rubber and less wheel. I have 18s on my Tundra and love it but won't post it here in respect to the forum. Still very open to suggestions but everything I've read says 265/70/17 or 265/65/18 will fit with 4.5" BS.

 

I lifted my Taco 1 1/2" . I plan on using ATX wheels 17 x 8 with 0 off set and 4.45 back space with a 265 65 17 tire . Will I have any rubbing problems or my tires sticking out my fender wells ? Any viberation problems due to the lift?

 

That tire size comes stock on 4x4 models with 17" rims. With the 0 offset, the edge of the tire should be roughly flush with the edge of the fender flare.

As far as the vibrations, each truck is different. You could put the same lift on 2 of the same truck. One might have vibrations, while the other doesn't, or might have them at different speeds.

 

What would be better ? I'm wanting to keep the tires inside the wheel wells yet no rubbing on a tight turn.

 

Didn't get any help on this but thought I would try again and add on what I heard from Rimzoneonline.

I was told 265/70/17 would fit. The Toyo AT2 fits up to 9 in wheel. He said to go with 17x9 with +18 offset and I would have no issues. He said anything from about +10 to +20 would be good.

Opinions? Personal experience?

 

I just ordered my wheels! 17x8.5" with a +14 offset 5.25" backspace
This will move my stock wheel location just a hair over 1 full inch outward

Im gonna run stock tire size 265/65/17

If I were you get the black hostage 17x8.5 +14 offset 5.25" backspace
The hostage wheels look sweet on the Tacoma
Trust me they wont stick out,but gives you just a slightly wider stance
If you want you can also run 265/70/17 with NO issues
Also great thing about that wheel....its hub centric to your Tacoma

i hate to ask, but i need confirmation before i drop a ton of cash on wheels and tires. i've read this thread a half dozen times and i just don't know what to do.

i want to get this:

18x9 wheel
-6 offset
4.76 BS
6 x 5.5 bolt pattern
106.1 bore

and i can install 265/60-18 tires to keep the diameter the same as stock. will this rub fenders or suspension on my stock '13 DCSB Sport? can i even mount a 265/60 on a 9 inch rim? i'm so confused.

and just to add to my confusion, willtheyfit.com says the 18x9 -6 wheel will stick out 55.1mm more than what i have now, and rimsntires.com says they will stick out 36mm more. i think 55 is too much for the look i want but 36 would be just right. please help me, thanks!
