    Dang dude, you have had an adventure. Horses are assholes. I grew up feeding the bastards every day and learned that motorcycles are a better form of transportation. Less maintenance. Btw, goat meat is delicious. I also have a well, and have been considering a small cistern to be able to at least gravity feed water when the power goes out. I just have to come up with a way to camo it so the wife approves.

    Don't have a motorcycle. At the rate things are going, I will never have one. Finances are constantly being tied up with one thing or another. For transportation, I have my taco and a 2000 VW Jetta. It would be nice to have a tractor one day to take care of things around the farm. Goats are Nigerian dwarf for the breed, which are known for having very good milk. Boer is more of a meat goat since they get much bigger and tend to eat more of the weeds and crap people don't want. The other 2 goats I have will not be served for dinner.

    Build the cistern as high up in the house as you can. In the a attic space can be a great place to hide it and fairly easily be able to tie in to the water line (using copper or pex). Hardest part would be connecting to an existing water line because you may have to open sheetrock in order to tap into it, which also would include drywall repair. Textured walls are harder to match up and hide the cuts than flat walls. If you get really desperate for help, I could probably find a time to come down. You're only about 3-3.5 hour drive away.

    Thanks for the offer, but I'm a professional hillbilly and there's nothing I can't fix with some lacing wire and 100mph tape. I've used Pex in my RV (didn't drain the water, -30F...) to replace some lines, it's easy to work with. The attic thing is a great idea, my only concern is how to distribute the weight...

    1. Make sure to have a shutoff valve so you can isolate it (90 degree ball valve would be great). If you ever have a leak somewhere, you can keep from losing all the water in it.
    2. Put it as close as you can to either an exterior wall or centered above a support wall on the interior.
    3. Duct tape will dry out over time, and lose its strength. Clear packing tape may lose its stickiness, and may not be the strongest thing, but in 10 years, it will not have deteriorated like the duct tape.
    4. Shark bite connectors work nicely with pex. If you ever have to take the lines apart, they sell some special tool to remove the shark bite connector or coupling, but I found that a basic crescent wrench adjusted to be just loose enough to slide on the pipe does the job, and it doesn't cost you anything extra, because you are probably like me and have at least 4 of them around the house.
    5. Build a bit of a frame using plywood/2by stock (2x4,6,8,10,12) across trusses. You could do a double stack with offset joints for the top vs bottom layer and get longer weight distribution.
    6. Build a custom water tank out of plexiglass or something similar then seal it using silicone. Build long and narrow to fit close in the corner of the trusses. To avoid a vacuum preventing water flow, look into some sort of breather valve, even if it means a manual open/close. Also, since I deal with fittings at work, for 1/2" lines, you need to drill a 7/8" hole for the connector, 3/4" line takes 1-1/8" hole, 1" line take 1-3/8" hole. Anything bigger than 3/4 will be unnecessary. If you do the custom build thing, build it with a slight slope and put the water fill/drain valve at the low point.

    Presumably you are talking about me, and I drink by the pint, not half pint. When I buy ribs, the package typically comes with 3 racks, which will feed more people than I have at my house right now. There is also the minor detail of me being broke and jobless so buying more ribs isn't exactly priority right now.
