Experience with Zeus Lighting

Does anyone have any experience with Zeus Lighting? Apparently this is the lighting line from Olympus Off Road which I also have no experience with. I was looking at one of their light bars (linked below) but am hesitant due to not being able to find many reviews on the bar or company. Their price looks good and their warranty

If anyone knows of another company with a proven track record that offers a similar product please let me know, even if it's a little more expensive.

I definitely appreciate the quick response. Do you guys have any video of the dual color light bar and output? I really like the idea of it.

 

Unfortunately Videos never quite show the truth with lights. Let me see what we can put together for you tonight.

 

I've got two of their 50w 10" flatline bars, 2 18w pods on the front and another 2 of those on the rear. They're awesome lights, terrific output, and they've held up great.



Daniel, I need to pick up some of your rock lights! I never got a hold of you after picking these up for some.

 

I'm mostly interested in seeing the color change in action as well as the output and whether there is any difference in output between the two colors. I do understand that output doesn't convey very well on video or even pictures unless you have someone who really knows how to tweak the camera settings.

Curious how long you've been running yours.

 

Also, what kind of warranty do you guys have on these?

 

I've had them since shortly after they released the Flatline series this last spring. Over the last two months is when they've been getting the most use, I've spent multiple nights doing nighttime photography and have been driving home on back roads late at night, so they've been on and off relentlessly, driven through a few creek crossings, rain storms, etc. with no issue with their waterproofing or durability.

The anodizing on one of the bars (I had one mounted to the stinger before I added the third bar and mounted the two Zues lights next to each other) has faded from sun exposure, it did the typical anodizing fade from black to brown, and now it's creeping toward raw aluminum. When I feel like getting around to it, I'll get some high heat paint and give it some love.

The only real complaint I have, and it's a fairly minor complaint because I have the capacity to fabricate new ones, is the mount for the 18w pods is extremely thin gauge metal, and two of the brackets have broken - not from impact, but vibration. I'll be building new mounts with either 1/8" or 3/16", that will also be lower profile (the stock mount is rather tall, which is in part to accommodate the location that the power exits the housing, but it's unnecessarily so.

 

FWIW I also have their H4 LED headlights and have been running them the entire time I've owned the truck with no issues and am rather fond of them.

 

Appreciate your quick response. I have some concerns with the annodizing fading after a relatively short amount of time but if it's something I'm aware of, it might be worth dealing with that to have the ability to switch back and forth between white and amber.

 

In my experience anodizing is prone to fading in general from sun exposure, there's very few anodizing colors that aren't prone to that. I would imagine that lights that don't have that issue are finished in a different process than just the standard dip. The flatline lights are also a smooth/glossy finish, where as the pods are a rough texture, and appear to have a durable paint on them, or possibly an anodizing process I'm not yet aware of.

The bike shop I work for has like 60 demo bikes that get stored outside every day of the year, and any of the aluminum handlebars that are anodized black almost always fade in a similar manner.

 

I had considered getting one of the Rigid Marine bars to match my white truck and may just go ahead and paint the bar white with some color-matched spray paint that I already have. Need to see if it's recommended for aluminum though.

Have you noticed any fading/hazing of the lense? My truck is almost always parked outside and I really don't want anything going on that would effect light output over the life of the light.

 

The lenses are in perfect condition. The included covers are a really nice addition and help protect the actual lens itself. I also particularly like the covers, because I think I'm going to throw some lens tint that I have on them to help darken the front of the truck a little more (and make it look like there's less money bolted to the front).

I think as long as you prep the aluminum and apply a primer it'd be fine.

Anodizing is a tough battle... As stated above it is something that the sun in Colorado eats alive. We are at 1 mile above sea level and that lends it self to a more harsh sun... the only other place we have seen a trend of faded housings are in Arizona. Rustolem Industrial is the best paint to use as it sticks amazing and dries hard!

I've had my Olympus Offroad 40" Dual Color LED light bar for a while. For reasons unrelated to quality I've decided to sell but it has been great during the time that I've had it. In the interest of selling and just for info on anyone else that might be looking at this bar I wanted to do a little test. I went out to a dark road and placed road cones every 25 feet out to 200 feet. Pictures are below:

The picture above is very deceptive. The camera is trying to focus on the white light from my headlights and in the process I think a lot of the amber is getting washed out. There is much more amber light than what this picture suggests.

The picture above is a little closer to the light output of the amber. It's probably slightly less than what the picture suggests but not much less.



And one last picture of just the LED bar white w/ no cones. I took this right after we picked up the cones. I will say that at the 200 foot cone I held my hand up and I could have read a book at that distance, although it would have been difficult at much further than that.



Keep in mind this has been on my truck for about a year. I did not clean it prior to pictures as I thought this provided a more real-world scenario. Most people I know don't stop to clean their light lenses before heading off road.

I also have a clear piece of 3M vinyl over the lens to prevent sand pitting or UV damage, neither of which I've observed. I'm not sure if the vinyl would affect how the light is projected but if it does, I'd think it would be minimal.

I also have not noticed any discoloration of the housing. Overall I've been very happy with this light but have decided to go a different route than a roof bar.
